Food delivery application Zomato on Monday, 10 December, fired a delivery executive after he was filmed eating sealed food en route delivery.
The video, supposedly filmed in Madurai, showed the man eating sealed food and has since gone viral on social media, with users expressing outrage over the man’s actions.
In the two-and-half minute video, the man, in a Zomato uniform, can be seen opening the sealed boxes, eating from them and resealing the packets before placing them back inside his box, as he jets off to the specified location.
In a statement, Zomato said:
“The person in the video happened to be a delivery partner on our fleet. We have spoken to him at length – and while we understand that this was a human error in judgement, we have taken him off our platform.”Zomato
Zomato has now assured that it will take additional steps to ensure that such an incident does not happen again, by introducing tamper-proof tapes, and a slew of other such measures.
“We take this very seriously and will soon introduce tamper proof tapes, and other precautionary measures to ensure we safeguard against this. Additionally we will educate our delivery fleet of over 1.5 lakh partners to highlight or escalate any such deviations to us, while also encouraging our users - the custodians of our platform to highlight the smallest anomalies to us.”Zomato, in a statement
Zomato, while thanking their delivery partners for helping them grow into the “largest food delivery platform across the country” also encouraged its users to report any such anomalies or untoward incidents to the app directly.
