After resisting taking back lynched victim Alimuddin Ansari’s body from the police twice on Thursday, his family finally agreed out of exhaustion on Friday morning.

Women from Ramnagar district in Jharkhand came out in support of Ansari’s family. They refused to accept his dead body after he was lynched to death over suspicion of carrying beef.

The women demanded a speedy probe and the arrest of the accused.

Samma said no member of the family was asked or spoken to before the post mortem took place.

Right from the time of the incident on Thursday, till after his post mortem later in the evening they didn’t give us assess to his body. So, now when they want us to take the body back, we should?

After the family agreed to accept the body, Ansari was cremated the same day. Hundreds of people came for the cremation from nearby villages.

When we asked the police why there was such distrust between the deceased’s family and them, they refused to comment.

An FIR filed by Ansari’s wife, names 12 men, allegedly known to be affiliated to local right wing organisations, reportedly.

Ramgarh superintendent of police said three men were in custody of which one person had surrendered.

Interrogation of a fourth is underway and we are working hard to nab all the accused.

Section 144 has been imposed in Ramgarh district in Jharkhand, in the aftermath of the alleged ‘beef lynching’ incident that claimed the life of meat trader.

While the villagers might have taken the body back, the anger and desire for justice looms strongly in Manua village in Ramgarh.
