RPF Constable Suspended for Allegedly Molesting Woman in Mumbai

The constable was suspended from his duties with the RPF on Wednesday, 20 June.

A video of a Railway Protection Force (RPF) Constable molesting a woman, who was sitting next to him at the Kalyan Railway Station, has gone viral in social media.

The incident, The Times of India reports, took place on Monday, 18 June, around 10.30 pm at platform 4/5 at Kalyan Railway Station.

In the video, which was recorded by another passenger in the station, the constable, Jahangir, is seen touching the woman’s back inappropriately, and repeatedly, until another woman – a companion of the woman he was touching – raised an alarm.

Following this, DNA reports, the incident was brought to the attention of several other commuters, who intervened and thrashed Jahangir.

News of this incident soon reached the relevant authorities in the RPF, and Jahangir was suspended from his duties on Wednesday, 20 June.

When we saw the video, we immediately suspended the constable and inquiry has been initiated against him.
Sachin Bhalode, Divisional Commissioner of Central Railways told DNA 

He added that although a formal complaint regarding the charge of molestation against Jahangir has not been registered by the woman in question, they would be taking strict action against him on the basis of the video.

According to the witnesses it questioned, DNA reports that the constable was allegedly inebriated at the time of the incident, and had attempted to run away, when he was cornered by the angry commuters.

Once the video went viral on social media, Twitter flew into a fit of rage, demanding serious legal action against Jahangir.

The constable was suspended from his duties with the RPF on Wednesday, 20 June.
