Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu on Tuesday tactfully ruled himself out of the Presidential race with a smart wordplay. In the wake of speculations about Naidu being considered as a possible candidate for the post of Vice-President, he clarified all doubts by saying:
I neither want to become Rashtrapati (President) nor do I want to become Uprashtrapati (Vice President). I am happy being Usha’s pati (wife Usha’s husband).
Some party members consider Naidu as a choice for the post of Vice-President as it would help the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) set foot in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
The Presidential elections in India are going to be held in July. The President is elected by the Elected Members of both the Houses of the Parliament and State Legislatures who form the Electoral College while the Vice-President is elected by all the members of the Electoral College (nominated members included).
