The Uttar Pradesh police were on an encounter spree over the weekend, with six showdowns being reported to have taken place with wanted criminals. By Sunday morning, two had been killed and five injured and arrested.
Of the two deceased, Shravan Chaudhary, a wanted in murder case in Delhi and Noida, died in the hospital, after being injured in the exchange of fire. He was a rewardee of Rs 50,000 each from Noida and Delhi. One AK-47 and one SBBL gun were recovered from his body.
In Saharanpur, a wanted criminal with a bounty of Rs 25,000 on his head was killed on Saturday night. However, another managed to escape an encounter with the police; a manhunt has been launched to find him. One cop was injured in the exchange. Rs 1 Lakh, one motorcycle and a pistol were seized. The police are on the lookout for the escapee.
