Under Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath’s farmer loan waiving scheme — Fasal Kisan Rin Mochan Yojana, debt-ridden farmers can get a loan waiver of upto Rs 1 lakh, so it came off as bit of joke to a Mathura farmer, when he received a certificate relieving him of 1 paise of an outstanding farm loan of Rs 1.5 lakhs.
Speaking to Times of India, Chhiddi, a farmer in the Govardhan Tehsil said he didn’t know if the government’s remission was a mistake or reality.
This government is making fun of us farmers.Chiddhi told Times of India
Chiddi’s son accused the government of corruption and told TOI this happened to the farmers who didn’t appease the “babus”. He also informed NDTV that he visited the officials thrice since his father is eligible for a loan waiver of at least Rs 1 lakh, but nobody has been able to explain why only 1 paise was deducted.
The Mathura district administration said a technical glitch could have caused the problem.
While implementing this scheme Adityanath had boasted that this would benefit 86 lakh farmers in Uttar Pradesh and cost the state Rs 36,000 crore. As of now, only 12 lakh farmers have accessed this scheme, including 10,000 farmers who faced a similar situation as Chichi.
Citing similar examples, NDTV reported that Shamble Nath got a loan waiver of Rs 12, Ram Pradsad got a Rs 1.5 worth loan waiver.
This news drew a range of reactions from political parties and citizens alike.
