WHAT HAD HAPPENED

On Sunday, 28 July, a car carrying the Unnao rape survivor collided with a truck in Raebareli while they were on their way to meet her uncle in a jail in Rae Bareilly, killing her two aunts and critically injuring the survivor and her lawyer Mahendra Singh.

The woman’s family alleged that expelled BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and his men were behind the collision. CBI later filed an FIR against him and nine others.

She was moved to Delhi’s AIIMS from Lucknow’s KGMU hospital following the accident and the family is under CRPF security as per the Supreme Court's order.

She will now be staying with her family in Delhi after Uttar Pradesh government said they wanted to reside in the national capital apprehending threat in their home state.

The woman was allegedly kidnapped and raped by Sengar in Unnao in 2017, when she was a minor.
