Union Minister Shripad Naik was injured and his wife, Vijaya Naik, died on Monday, 11 January, after the car they were travelling in met with an accident in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka. A day later, Minister of Defence Rajnath Singh visited him in the hospital in Goa.
According to ANI, they were on their way to a temple in Gokarna from Yellapur, in Karnataka, when the incident took place.
The personal assistant of the minister also died in the accident, Uttara Kannada SP Shivprakash Devaraju was quoted as saying.
Shripad Naik is currently in-charge of the AYUSH Ministry, and is also the minister of state for Defence.
Rajnath Singh Visits Naik in Goa Hospital
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met the team of doctors at Goa Medical College and inquired about Naik’s health on Tuesday, 12 January.
“I’d spoken to Goa CM after the accident, PM had spoken to him too. PM had then called me up and expressed distress. He then asked me to come here (Goa), I was thinking the same. Shripad Naik is stable, doctors say that he doesn’t seem to be in any danger as of now,” Singh told media persons according to ANI.
“If needed, he might be taken to Delhi for treatment. It depends on the doctors here,” Singh added, saying that the doctors have spoken to the Delhi AIIMS Director.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as well as Defence Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to ensure proper treatment for the injured minister, who is admitted at a hospital in Goa and is reportedly out of danger.
"He is out of danger and his health condition is stable. isTwo minor surgeries will be performed on him tonight. As of now, there is no need to shift him to Delhi for treatment," said CM Sawant to reporters.
Wishes for a speedy Recovery and Condolences Poured In
Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal condoled the death of his wife in the accident.
