Seventeen soldiers and four militants were killed on Sunday during an attack on an army camp in Jammu and Kashmir’s Uri.

Militants attacked an Indian army brigade headquarters near the Line of Control (LoC).

The attack comes on the back of two months of continued violence in the valley following the encounter that killed Hizbul commander Burhan Wani. The violence that gripped the valley after Burhan Wani’s encounter has claimed close to 80 lives.

The Quint takes a look at the recent attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, which has been on the boil for the past two months.

1. Poonch Attack: Four L-e-T Terrorists Killed

A policeman was killed and two others, including an officer, were injured as security forces and police engaged in a three-day long operation to neutralise 4 Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists. The operation began on 10 September.

The encounter between security forces and terrorists broke out in Poonch district after the militants started firing from the under-construction mini secretariat building near the Army’s 93 Brigade headquarters in Poonch town around 8 am.

2. Pulwama Clashes:12 Injured

Clashes broke out between protesters and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district on 11 September. Twelve people were left injured in the clashes.

However, these clashes were triggered after militants attacked a CRPF camp in Pulwama district but fled after a long battle with the security personnel on 9 September.

3. Kupwara: Army Neutralises Three Terrorists

The Indian Army on 21 August foiled an infiltration bid along the (LoC) in Tangdhar sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district, killing three terrorists in an encounter.

Reports claim the three terrorists were involved in the attack on a BSF camp in Karnah area of Kupwara on 19 August, which resulted in three security personnel being injured.

4. Pulwama CRPF Camp Attacked

On 1 July, terrorists attacked CRPF camp in Litter village of Pulwama district in Jammu and Kashmir. Grenades were reportedly hurled and four security personnel were left injured in the attack.

The attack came a week after eight CRPF jawans were killed and 20 others injured in a militant ambush on a convoy in Pampore town in Pulwama district.
