Twitter Rolls Out New Gandhi Emoji to Mark Bapu’s 150th Birthday

PM Modi launched the emoji on Twitter a day prior to Gandhi Jayanti. The emoji will be live till 8 October.

Celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi with the all new ‘Gandhi Emoji’ rolled out by Twitter India.

PM Narendra Modi officially launched the emoji on Twitter a day prior to Gandhi Jayanti to mark the celebrations. The emoji will be live through the week till 8 October, Twitter India said in a statement.

“The new emoji from Twitter will feature a caricature of Mahatma Gandhi and people in India and across the world can celebrate with the ‘Gandhi Emoji’ by using the hashtags #GandhiJayanti, #MKGandhi, #BapuAt150, #MahatmaGandhi, #MyGandhigiri, #MahatmaAt150, #NexusOfGood, #ग ाँधीजयंती, and #ગ ાંધીજયાંતિ,” said Twitter India in a statement.

In the past too, Twitter India has launched special emojis to celebrate festivals such as Diwali, Ganesh Chaturthi, Independence Day, Republic Day, International Day of Yoga and Ambedkar Jayanti with customised emojis.

In the press statement, Twitter India said, “Twitter continues to celebrate all cultures with customized initiatives for key milestones and events across the world. These initiatives are conceptualized keeping in mind the sentiments and are a delightful way to reinforce a sense of unity and harmony amongst people in India and Indians around the world.”

Kickstarting the celebrations for the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, PM Narendra Modi, on 2 October will pay homage to one of India’s most revered freedom fighters at Raj Ghat and attend programmes related to sanitation and renewable energy.
