Former Union Minister Renuka Choudhary sparked outrage as she made what appears to be her child’s nanny stand behind them in a restaurant during a meal while they ate.
The photo was posted by Twitter user Rishi Bagree, and people went on to comment on how it’s a harsh reality in India that domestic help is often ostracised.
Prominent Twitterati were outraged at the way the former Women and Child Development Minster was treating her help.
A user went on to post a photo of a similar scenario to draw attention to the ostracism often faced by domestic help, especially in the upper echelons of society.
Others jumped at the opportunity to further a political agenda and highlight their disapproval of an entire party.
It has not been established whether the girl was standing only momentarily or was made to stand throughout the meal. It does, however, bring under the spotlight the attitude many Indians display towards their help.
