Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, 16 December, visited Mizoram, to inaugurate the Tuirial Hydropower Project. On reaching Aizawl, he tweeted a video stating that he was looking forward to interacting with the people of the state.
He was received by Lt Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma and Mizoram Chief Minister Shri Lal Thanhawla at the the Lengpui Airport. This is his first visit to the state after being elected as the Prime Minister.
The PM began his address by wishing Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. He also added that he had fond memories of Mizoram, and his visits in the past have been very pleasant and friendly.
Talking about the Tuirial Hydropower Project he said that the project had been cleared way back in 1988 during former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s regime but got delayed. But, the BJP’s conviction to complete the project is an evidence of their dedication to serve the people of Northeast.

PM Modi also emphasised on the benefits of hydropower project. He said the project will provide electricity, water supply, and help in the development of fisheries, while also boosting eco-tourism.
He also recalled and reminded the youth of Mizoram about ‘New India.’
