1. Differently Abled Teacher Held for Raping 10-Yr-Old Girl in New Delhi

A differently abled teacher was arrested for allegedly raping a 10-year-old student in southeast Delhi's Dakshinpuri, the police said on 3 November.

The victim was allegedly raped by the 30-year-old man in September, they said. She was threatened by the accused teacher and out of fear she stopped going to his classes and did not narrate her ordeal to anyone, the police said. A few days ago, the accused tried to molest the girl again. She told her mother and the police were informed. Subsequently, the accused teacher was arrested, the police added.

2. Wife, Minor Daughter Locked in a Room for 5 Years by Man in Bengal

The Bengal police on Wednesday evening rescued a 36-year-old woman and her 11-year-old daughter from a room, where they were allegedly locked up for about five years by the woman’s husband. The incident took place at Jalangi area of Murshidabad district, about 210 km from Kolkata.

Even the windows of the room were sealed with black plastic sheets to keep out the sunlight.

3. Peon Rapes Girl Inside Clinic in East Delhi

A 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a peon inside a dental clinic in east Delhi's Mandawli. The accused has been arrested, police said on 3 November.

The victim, a Class XI student, lives near the clinic, they said. On 2 November, after the doctor left for home, the accused called the teenager to the office and raped her, the police said.

The girl narrated her ordeal before her parents, following which her family approached police and a case was registered, the police said.

4. Man Arrested for Killing Woman in Kolkata

A 28-year-old man was arrested for allegedly killing a 30-year-old homemaker at Dum Dum Road in Chitpur early on Friday.

Sanjay Mistry, 28, who works at Port Blair in Andaman, was arrested from his house near the woman's residence, hours after the woman, Radha Ghosh was found with a slit throat and a blunt injury at the back of her head on Thursday night.

5. Fake Call Centre Duping US Citizens Busted in Mumbai, 14 Arrested

The Mumbai police crime branch busted a major fake call centre racket and arrested 14 people, including a computer engineer, from two different offices in Malad on Thursday night. The scam was similar to the Rs 1,900-crore racket busted in Mira Road last year, in which the callers posed as Internal Revenue Service (IRS) officials and conned US citizens.

Interestingly, the owners of the Malad call centre had worked in the Mira Road one.

The preliminary probe into the racket has found that the callers posed as officials of the US treasury department and duped around 300 people. The racket is estimated to run into crores, but the police have not yet revealed the exact scale as they are still questioning the accused.

6. Man Strangles Married Girlfriend to Death in Mumbai Hotel for Not Being Paid His Share in Business

A 27-year-old married woman was allegedly strangled to death by her 23-year-old boyfriend over a financial dispute in a hotel in Sewri on Friday. The man, Irshad Qureshi, was arrested.

According to the Kalachowky police, Farhana Sohail Shaikh and Qureshi checked into the hotel on Friday morning. They were also partners in an apparel business at Grant Road. “They had been in a relationship for the past one year,” said Dilip Ugale, senior inspector of Kalachowky police station. “She told Qureshi that they will be partners in business but asked him to pose as an employee rather than a partner in front of her husband,” he said.

Qureshi was indignant that he did not get his share of money from the business. “He told us that he was not happy with the earnings as he had to meet expenses for his family,” said Ugale.

7. Unemployed Dentist Hangs Self

A dentist, Bhavik Talsania, 25, committed suicide at his Kandivli (west) residence between Wednesday night and Thursday morning, reportedly due to his inability to find a job. Talsania was found hanging in his room around 6 am on Thursday by his family. He lived with his mother and brother at Modi Nagar in Iraniwadi.

Talsania left a suicide note where he stated that he was unable to handle his life. He did not hold anyone responsible for the drastic step.

8. Medical Intern Terms Assistant Professor Sexual Predator

A graduate in medicine doi­ng her compulsory rotatory residential internship recently levelled sexual harassment charges against an assistant professor in the Government Villupuram Medical College and Hospital Chennai. She lodged a complaint with the Dean and sent a copy to the Director of Medical Education and vice-chancellor of the Dr MGR University, Chennai.

In her complaint, the 21-year-old claimed that on 22 October, an assistant professor from the Department of Surgery had been touching her inappropriately on multiple occasions while she was on duty.

The girl’s father said she sounded disturbed when he spoke to her that day, adding that he heard about the incident a couple of days later through her close friend.

9. Delhi: 27-Yr-Old Killed, 3 Injured in SUV Hit-And-Run

A 27-year-old man died while his brother and two other pedestrians were injured when an SUV hit them in Saket, Delhi, on Friday. Police said the accused fled the spot.

All four men were taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, where doctors declared Narender Sharan, who was on a bike when he was hit, brought dead. The condition of his elder brother, Suresh Sharan, is critical, while the two pedestrians have been discharged after treatment.
