The body of a 3-year-old girl was found dumped at an isolated place in Pandesara locality of Gujarat's Surat city, the police said on Tuesday, August 7.

The body had injury marks and it appears that the girl was killed and then dumped here, Deputy Commissioner of Police B R Pandor said, adding that they were waiting for the autopsy report.

In April this year, another body of a 9-year-old girl was also recovered from the same locality. The autopsy report had confirmed that the girl was sexually assaulted and then killed. Police had said that a person, who was later arrested, had brought the girl and her mother as bonded labourers and murdered them.

According to a Times of India report, the preliminary post-mortem revealed that the girl had over 30 injury marks and a severe head injury which might have killed her.

The body was found in Vadod village near Pandesara area of the city, roughly a kilometre from the spot where the body of the nine-year-old girl was found in April.

The 3-year-old was wearing a yellow dress, and the locals alerted the police after seeing the body. Sources in the police said that the girl was murdered on Monday, and her body was immediately dumped. “Her forehead had turned dark, and similar injury marks were seen on her shoulder, hands and legs,” a source said.

According to assistant commissioner of police F-Division, R D Faldu, “The injuries could be a week old, but the head injury was lethal.”

The case has been handed over to Surat Crime Branch which has set up seven teams to identify the girl and bring the culprits to justice. The police teams are going door to door with the girl’s photo to identify her. According to sources in the police department, the girl seems to be of North Indian descent.
