Amid speculation, theories, and concerns being raised over actor Sridevi’s death in Dubai, Navdeep Suri, the Indian Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), said that the shock was understandable but the media speculations and stories surrounding her death were uncalled for.
Suri took to Twitter to say that the Indian Embassy was working to get her mortal remains to India at the earliest.
He also explained that the procedures taking place were according to the Dubai government, and that the process normally takes at least two days.
Ever the 54-year-old superstar’s death was announced on 25 February, there have been speculations over her untimely demise. While initial reports suggested that she died of a cardiac arrest, the autopsy suggested that she died due to ‘accidental drowning.’
The Dubai police, on 26 February, recorded the statement of her husband and film producer Boney Kapoor. Kapoor had reportedly discovered Sridevi unconscious in the bathtub filled with water. She was taken to a hospital where she was declared dead on arrival, reported PTI.
The Dubai government said that the police had transferred the case to the "Dubai Public Prosecution,” which will carry out regular legal procedures followed in such cases.
Sridevi was in Dubai for a family wedding and had stayed back after the ceremonies. Her husband had flown back to Mumbai with their younger daughter, Khushi, but returned to Dubai to surprise her.
Her family has not commented beyond their initial statement on Sunday to announce the death, and has requested the media not to contact them as they grapple with the tragedy.
