The Quint first reported the story of braveheart 41-year-old CRPF jawan, Khursheed Ahmad, who was hit with 8 bullets in a militant attack in Pampore district in Kashmir on 25 June.

Over 2 months ago, he was admitted in the AIIMS trauma centre in Delhi. In his first ever interview published on 26 August, Khursheed complained of a lack of medical facilities given to him in India’s biggest government hospital.

After our report, on 30 August, Khursheed was shifted to a CRPF hospital.

I have no problems anymore. My senior officers are helping me a lot. They frequently come to meet me in the hospital during the day. Even CRPF doctors come to see me several times in a day. Now I have been shifted to our own (CRPF) hospital. Home is home, afterall.

Khursheed has been serving as a security personnel for the past 23 years. This is what he has to say to his fellow Kashmiris on the Valley’s unrest.

I can’t say much about it. I am a local person. Every person has his or her own mind, his own path. Some choose a good path, some choose the bad one. I would tell everyone to never choose the wrong path [terrorism]. If you choose the wrong path, you’ll meet your end. If you choose the right path, good things will come to you.
