The cacophony of posters in Bengaluru stands out. The love for posters, banners and cutouts is eternal to south India. Politicians believe in being ‘face to face’ over mere poster sloganeering. Sometimes the whole cadre wants to appear on a single banner along with the leader.

Ordinary souls embraced the ‘image-culture’ in the form of birthday greetings and congratulatory messages, and even to express grief at the time of a death in the family. Thousands in number, the flex banners and posters have now become a menace for the city.

The Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force (BMTF) has now been empowered to book cases against people defacing the city. A drive has been initiated to clean up these illegal messages and greetings. Display ads can now not be put up without express permission from Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).

With the new task force in place, the ‘poster love story’ in Bengaluru may finally see an end!
