Here are the key points that sum up the CBI’s flawed investigation.
How Could Sheena Bite Driver Rai From Rear Seat?
The CBI has claimed that Sheena Bora took the rear seat beside Indrani Mukerjea after Rahul Mukerjea dropped her at Amarsons showroom, Linking Road, Mumbai at 6:30 pm on April 24, 2012.
Indrani offered Sheena a drink laced with a drug. Soon she was drowsy. Indrani strangled her while Sanjeev Khanna held her head.
Driver Shyamwar Rai was at the steering wheel. So how was he bitten by Sheena?
Mumbai Police vs CBI
Mumbai Police concluded that the murder took place in a desolate lane behind National College, Bandra.
The CBI’s finding is that the murder took place in a moving car after it headed towards Pali Hill from Linking Road, Bandra. National College and Pali Hill are at a distance of about 2.5 km from each other.
Who Is Sarkar Who Supplied Guns to Rai?
The CBI claims the gun and three rounds of ammunition were supplied to Shyamwar Rai by Kolkata-based Sujit Kumar Sarkar, the bodyguard of businessman and Indrani’s close associate, Abhijit Sen.
Where did Sarkar get the weapon and was it licenced? It is a criminal offence to hand out a weapon with bullets to an unknown person, regardless of whether the gun is licenced or not. Sarkar was only questioned, not arrested by the CBI.
Sanjeev Khanna-Mikhail Bora Mismatch
Sanjeev Khanna checked into Hilltop Hotel at 6:05 pm on April 24, 2012. After checking-in, Khanna called up Indrani and spoke to her for about four minutes and went to his room. With heavy evening traffic, he couldn’t have made it to Bandra from Worli by 6:30 pm.
So how was he present at Amarsons showroom on Linking Road at 6:30 pm on April 24, 2012?
Mikhail Bora may not have spoken the entire truth. He claimed in one TV channel interview that well past midnight of April 24, 2012 – effectively into April 25 – he saw and recognised Sanjeev Khanna.
According to Mikhail, Khanna had also taken him to a drug rehab centre in 2005. In a later statement before TV cameras, Mikhail claimed that he had never seen or met Khanna before.
Ex-Mumbai Cop Should be Thoroughly Probed
The role played by Sohail Buddha, a former Mumbai cop who subsequently worked for Star TV when Peter Mukerjea was its CEO, and his younger brother Sameer, must be probed thoroughly by the CBI.
Sohail employed Indrani’s driver Shyamwar Rai after he was relieved of his services in July 2012. Sameer made two calls to Indrani when Sheena was either being strangled or was dead.
