External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has again proved to
be the go-to minister for aggrieved Indians staying abroad. Swaraj facilitated the process to rescue Gurpreet, a woman who was stuck in a refugee
camp in Germany along with her eight-year-old daughter, all via Twitter.
Swaraj sprang into action after a relative of Gurpreet posted her video on YouTube pleading for help. In the video, Gurpreet is heard saying that she has been ‘cheated’ by her husband’s family and brought to Germany and that she needs help as soon as possible.
The minister got into action and informed that she has got the report from our embassy in Germany and assured Gurpreet of help.
The Indian consulate in Frankfurt was contacted and then on Wednesday, Swaraj made the announcement on Twitter that Gurpreet and her daughter were rescued and that they were put up at the Indian consulate.
Along with a photo of both, the minister further informed that they will reach India on Thursday morning.
Swaraj thanked Gurjit Singh, India’s envoy to Germany and Consul General in Frankfurt Raveesh Kumar for facilitating the rescue on Twitter.
