- Common Cause, an NGO, has approached the Supreme Court challenging the appointment of the new Director of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Rakesh Asthana.
- The petition filed by activist lawyer Prashant Bhushan also sought quashing his appointment as the interim/acting director of the CBI in accordance with the landmark judgment of the Supreme Court in the Vineet Narain case.
- Asthana, a 1984 Gujarat cadre Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, was a key investigator in the multi-crore-rupee fodder scam and also headed a special investigation team (SIT) that probed the burning of the Sabarmati Express train in 2002.
