The Supreme Court has taken offence to news that the deputy registrar has resigned over the death penalty given to 1993 Mumbai serial blasts accused, Yakub Memon. The SC in its statement has called the reports “not only incorrect but highly misleading.”
The Registry of Supreme Court of India takes a serious objection to the distorted news item reported by Electronic and Print Media that a Deputy Registrar of Supreme Court (Dr. Anup Surendranath) has resigned in protest of the execution of Yakub Memon or order of the Apex Court against stay of his execution.

The SC has issued a copy of the registrar’s resignation letter. In that he states his reason for resigning as wanting to pursue his research interests.
I wish to hereby inform you that I am resigning from the post of Deputy Registrar (Research). I would like to return to my parent institution (National Law University, Delhi) to pursue my research interests and other projects I am involved in.
– Prof Anup Surendranath
