A man hacked a 22-year-old woman to death in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad district on Wednesday, 14 February. Just a week before, the accused had been arrested for harassing her and had been let off on bail four days back.
The accused, identified as one Sachin Sharma, killed the woman with an axe close to a railway crossing in Modinagar. The victim was going back home from a tailor shop at the time of the incident, reported The Times of India.
After the crime, the man reportedly surrendered to the police with the axe still in hand.
The man had hacked the woman in her neck, chest, and stomach, causing immediate death.
The police reportedly said that the man and the woman were known to each other for a considerable amount of time. The man reportedly became jilted after the woman married someone else in April 2017.
Regarding the incident, the woman's uncle was quoted by TOI as saying:
On 12 February, Sachin Sharma had sent a message to her with the picture of a gun to threaten her. It seems he proposed to her again and tried to make advances that were spurned by her...Bharose Lal, Victim’s Uncle, to TOI
Though she was living in Loni with her husband, the victim had come to Modinagar, at her parents' house, to give the Class X school examinations, TOI reported.
