The CBI on Tuesday filed a chargesheet against 490 persons in the Vyapam scam, while issuing a clean chit to Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, as there was no mention of ‘CM’ in the hard disk that was seized earlier in relation to the case.

Striking down senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh’s claims that the hard disk had been tampered with, the CBI said that there was no basis to Singh’s allegations.

The hard disk in question is a pen drive that the Congress had submitted to the investigating agency in 2015. The pen drive reportedly held an excel sheet, which had important information about those involved in the Vyapam scandal.

The excel sheet also supposedly named CM Chouhan as having recommended the names of some of the candidates who had appeared for the examinations conducted by the MP Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) or Vyapam.

However, Singh later claimed that the document had been tampered with to replace Chouhan’s name with that of Uma Bharti and several other leaders.

The Vyapam scam pertains to a series of irregularities in the MPPEB examinations, and has witnessed over 2,000 arrests since 2013.
