When Sharafu Pilassery left Dubai with his child and wife, he was excited to return home.

Wearing protective face shields, masks, and white bodysuits, the three posed for a picture that was posted on Facebook before take off. Their smiles and relief of returning home can’t be missed even with those masks.

The photo Pilassery posted on his Facebook with the caption, “Back to home” is the last one taken together as a family.

Pilassery, 35, was one among the 18 persons who were killed in the horrific crash that took place upon their flight landing at the Karipur airport in Kozhikode, Kerala.

He breathed his last at the Baby Memorial Hospital on Friday. His wife Ameena Sherin is not in danger but their daughter Isa Fathima is struggling for life in Kozhikode Medical College.

His friend took to Facebook to write a heartfelt note on how he still can’t believe he is no more. He recalled that even during this pandemic, Sharafu had been helping the poor by donating money.

“Before he left for Kerala, he came to my hotel to say goodbye. He was upset and said, ‘I don’t know why but I feel tensed about going back home,’. I almost feel like he had a premonition about what would happen. He gave me money and told me to use it to give food to those who are stranded and those who don’t have jobs,” Shafi wrote.

“Seems like Sharafu Pilassry journey to India was to his end. May his soul rest in peace,” posted another friend Aneez AV Pattambi on Facebook.

35-year-old Pilassery is a native of Kunnamangalam in Kozhikode and has been working in Dubai. Pilassery had cited 'medical emergency’ as his reason for return to Kerala and his two-year-old's VISA had expired. He was returning on the Vande Bharat repatriation flight to his hometown.
