At least eight people were rescued, and more are feared trapped, after an under-construction building collapsed at Nicholson Road in Delhi's Kashmere Gate area on Monday, 14 March.
A search and rescue operation is underway at the site of the incident, and three fire tenders were rushed to the site after the fire department received a call around 5.30 pm.
"A PCR call was received regarding a building collapse at Nicholson Road, Kashmere Gate. The local police, fire service, and DDMA immediately reached the spot and the rescue operation is in full swing. So far, 8 persons have been rescued, all were workers on the site. Rescue operation is on," the Kashmere Gate police said.
Three people rescued from the rubble sustained grievous injuries, Hindustan Times reported Deputy commissioner of police (north) Sagar Singh Kalsi as saying.
Once the rescue operations are finished, a case will be lodged against the builder, the police official added.
At least 3-4 people are still feared trapped under the debris, as per the DCP. Those affected in the collapse are mostly suspected to be construction workers, who had been working in the area. No casualty has been reported so far.
Teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been alerted and will join the rescue operation, as per Delhi Fire Chief Atul Garg.
Among those injured are Dilip (22), a resident of Chabi Ganj, Mohd Musaib (35), a resident of Turkman Gate, and Mohd Shami (42), a resident of Jama Masjid area. All those who have received injuries have been admitted to nearby hospitals.
