A seven-year-old boy, Aniket Gaikwad, drowned in a water-filled pit in Wagle Estate locality in Mumbai on Sunday, 27 October, an official said.
“Gaikwad was pulled out of water after some time and rushed to a hospital, where he was declared brought dead,” said Santosh Kadam, Chief of the Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) of Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC).
The incident occurred around 12:45 pm, he added.
“The boy, Aniket Gaikwad, was playing with his friends in Kisan Nagar area when he fell into the pit along a water pipeline,” he said.
The pit was dug by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) between two water supply pipelines, which were then filled up with rainwater. The pit was left unguarded, reported Mirror Now.
