Thousands of farmers marched towards Bhubaneswar for the mega convention in Lower PMG defied Section 144 and entered the city on Monday, 5 November, odishatv.in reported.
Sec 144 was imposed in Tamando area on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar as hundreds of agitated farmers were marching for the convention organised by Naba Nirman Krushak Sangathan (NNKS).
“The farmers’ association has been demanding fair price, pension and prestige for 36 lakh farmers of the state for the past eight years, but the government is not paying heed to their demands,” the report quoted NNKS Convener Akshay Kumar as saying.
According to the report, former Kendrapara MP Baijayant ‘Jay’ Panda and many senior leaders including OPCC chief Niranjan Patnaik were seen joining the rally on Sunday, 3 November.
Hundreds of NNKS members were detained by police at Hanspal and Tamando areas where they were forced to spend the night, the report said.
The NNKS launched an eight-day-long ‘Jan Satyagraha Padayatra’ from 29 October.
