Rajesh Savaliya, a 31-year-old RTI activist from Surat, succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday night after he was found with several injuries on his body on the National Highway-8 in Navsari, reported The Indian Express.
Savaliya had launched a drive against the education mafia operating in Surat, reportedly. He had also reached out to the District Education officer to draw attention to schools functioning without approval and licences. Savaliya, who was found with injuries on his head, shoulder and stomach, had also received threat calls allegedly from the education mafia, according to the same report.
On Wednesday evening, Vijay Patel, a friend of Savaliya, received a call from the Navsari Civil Hospital about him being injured. Patel later shifted him to a private hospital and informed his family. Later that night, Savaliya was declared dead.
Police has registered the incident as a case of “accidental death” while they continue the probe.
We have called Rajesh Savaliya’s friend who has a construction site at Pardi in Valsad district to record his statements. At present, we have registered a case of accidental death, and not of murder. We will bring out call data records of the victim and call those who had been regularly in touch with him.
