Five people were killed and nearly a dozen were injured late on 30 January after their tractor-trolley fell into a gorge after being hit by a truck in Mirzapur in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, the police said.
The accident occurred at around 9.00 pm when the victims were going to the Dhaaighat to take a dip in the Ganga, Circle Officer, Jalalabad, Baldev Singh Khandela, said.
The deceased were identified as Ram Bhajan (54) and his 50-year-old wife Chhabile, and Ramkali (45) – residents of Girgicha village. Among the deceased was a 9-year-old child who succumbed to injuries at the district hospital, the circle officer said.
The identity of the remaining people is yet to be ascertained, according to the police.
A case has been registered following the accident. All the injured people have been hospitalised, the police has said, adding that the driver of the truck is at large.
