1. Residents Get a Say In Maintaining Juhu and Versova Beaches
The BMC has decided to handover the control of Juhu and Versova beach cleanups – from framing of tenders for selection of contractors to supervising the day-to-day work – to residents’ groups, a step that could spur residents in other parts of the city to similarly take ownership of maintaining cleanliness in their area.
Municipal Commissioner Ajoy Mehta allowed the residents’ groups to take charge of the two beaches after they met him on Tuesday and pointed out that the contractor appointed to maintain the Juhu beach does no work and the residents end up doing his job.

2. SSC Results 2017: The Perfect Score
Not one, not two, but 193 students in Maharashtra have achieved the impossible and scored 100/100 in their Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams. The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSC) Board announced the results on Tuesday. Over 16 lakh students in the state had appeared for the exam this year with an overall pass percentage of 88.74 per cent which is a little lower in comparison with last year’s 89.56 per cent. Girls, as usual beat boys in academics. Girls scored over 90 per cent, while boys were behind at 86.51 per cent.
Out of the total 21,684 schools in Maharashtra that conducted the SSC examinations, about 3,676 schools posted a 100 per cent result while 32 schools had 0 success.

3. MMRC ‘Misled High Court’ About Hiring Tree Expert
Metro rail planners appear to have misled the Bombay High Court when they said in an affidavit that renowned tree expert Simon Leong would be hired to oversee preservation of trees that will make way for Metro III.
Singapore-based Simon informed Mirror in a mail that Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) had not appointed him and that the remuneration it claimed it would be paying him — $33,000, or over Rs 21 lakh, a month — was more than his expectations.

4. Mumbai School Tells Parents To 'Dress Properly'; Stokes Controversy
Barely two months after the state had to intervene to defuse the tension between parents of Thakur International School and the management over a fee hike, the Kandivli institute is mired in yet another controversy. In the rules and regulations segment of its almanac, the authorities have mentioned that parents "must be properly dressed while picking up or dropping the students" to school. Livid parents have decided to approach the education department.

5. Cops Fight Off a Mob To Arrest Nigerian Drug Peddler
Following a heated scuffle, the Mumbai police's anti-narcotics cell (ANC) successfully managed to arrest a Nigerian drug peddler, while he was selling the party drug, mephedrone, late on Monday night.
Acting on a tip-off, three to four officers reached Dongri near Wadi Bunder bridge where a Nigerian national was allegedly selling drugs. Noticing the men approach him, the accused immediately called for help. Before the cops realised, around seven to eight Nigerians had arrived at the spot and began fighting with the officials. One of the cops was also assaulted in the brawl, an ANC official said. When the Nigerians figured that they'd soon be overpowered, they made a dash for the nearby bridge, jumped on to the railway tracks and escaped from the site. The officials managed to hold on to one of the peddlers, identified as Bathlome Chinoso (28), a resident of Navi Mumbai.

6. Woman Raped In Pantry Car Of Bandra-Jaipur Express
A 32-year-old woman was raped on a moving train by a staffer of the pantry car on the night of June 10 between Mumbai and Surat. The woman lodged a complaint in Jaipur after the train reached and later police in Jaipur railway brought the woman to Surat and transferred her complaint on Monday.
