#GoodNews: Capt Tania Shergill to Lead Men Contingent on Army Day

She will become the first female to lead an all-men contingent at the Army Day Parade.

A fourth generation woman Army officer will break a glass ceiling by being the first female to lead an all-men contingent at the Army Day Parade, which will be held at Delhi Cantonment on Wednesday, 15 January, reported news agency IANS.

Captain Tania Shergill from the Corps of Signals will be the parade adjutant, who is responsible for the parade.

Shergill, who has done BTech in electronics and communications, was commissioned in March 2017 from OTA Chennai.

Her father was in 101 Medium Regiment (Artillery) while her grandfather was in the 14th Armed Regiment (Scinde Horse).

Interestingly, her great grandfather was in the Sikh Regiment.

R-Day Honour Also for Capt Shergill

Captain Shergill will also be the first woman parade adjutant for the Republic Day parade, sources told news agency PTI on Monday.

In last year's Republic Day parade, Captain Bhavna Kasturi was the first woman officer to lead an all-men contingent.

The Republic Day parade will witness Infantry Combat Vehicle BMP-2K of the 18 Mechanised Infantry, Dhanush Gun System and the Army Air Defence on the Rajpath.

Contingents of the Corps of Signals, Sikh Light Infantry, Kumaon Regiment, the Grenadiers, the Parachute Regiment will also take part in the parade.
