Self-styled godman and Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Insan was sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment on charges of sexually assaulting two women, by the CBI court, on Monday.

After a 15-year-long legal battle, the Dera chief’s conviction came with widespread protests across Haryana, Punjab and New Delhi, with his followers running amok.

On the other hand, CBI special judge Jagdeep Singh, is known as a no-nonsense man by his colleagues. In his court order, he reasoned why the godman was granted two decades in the prison.
