The month of May usually sees the mercury levels soaring high. However, some respite may be in order as temperatures may drop across North-Western India on 2 May as light rain and storm approaches.
Weather agency Skymet Weather has forecast dust storms and thundershowers over the national capital, as well as the adjoining states of Punjab, Haryana, north Rajasthan and western Uttar Pradesh.
Thunderstorm and rain showers are likely to commence from Western Himalayas from the evening of 2 May. Further, Skymet attributed these weather changes to a Western Disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir.
Residents of Delhi and elsewhere have already taken to social media to share their joy over the much needed breather after reeling under hot weather conditions since the past few weeks.
In central India, a strong heatwave is likely to torment Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and parts of Chhattisgarh. Meanwhile, Mumbai is likely to witness a humid day with Chennai giving it company. The city will observe a warm night and sultry afternoon, the weather report added.
According to Skymet, Bengaluru is likely to witness a pleasant day with little chances of rainfall while moderate rains will hit interior Tamil Nadu, south Karnataka, and Kerala.
Moving to the North-Eastern belt, light to moderate rains are also expected to hit the states of Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura whereas Nagaland, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh will receive light rains, the report stated.
