1. Four Men Harass Female TV Journalist, Pass Lewd Comments; One Held

One person was arrested after a female journalist working with a national news channel was allegedly harassed by four people while she was returning from an assignment in south Delhi’s Andrewsganj area. The accused, who were in a vehicle, kept pace with her office cab and passed lewd comments and harassed her throughout her journey from Dhaula Kuan to Andrewsganj, a senior police official said.

2. Nirbhaya Rape Convict Attempts Suicide in Tihar Jail, Lawyer Calls it Attempted Murder

Vinay Sharma, one of the convicts in the 2012 Nirbhaya gangrape case, reportedly attempted suicide in Tihar Jail by consuming anti-depressants, and tried to hang himself using a cloth tied to an iron grill on Wednesday night at around 9:30 pm.He was caught in the act by a Tamil Nadu special police personnel and admitted to Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital at 12:02 am on Thursday morning, where his condition is said to be stable. His lawyer, AP Sharma, said that it was not an attempted suicide but an attempt at murder.

3. Man Held for Raping Minor Daughter for Two Months, Family Stays Mum Fearing Social Stigma

A 40-year-old man was booked for allegedly raping his minor daughter at their residence in Porsa area for last two months. The incident occurred on Wednesday night after Giriraj Tomar, a habitual drinker, came home sloshed and allegedly raped his 10-year-old daughter. The girl’s mother then informed the police that the man had been raping his daughter for last two months, but the family kept mum fearing social stigma.

4. Minor Boy Tortured by ‘Drug Addict’ Parents, Rescued

Burnt and bruised, a 9-year-old boy was rescued by some locals in Idduki district in Kerala after he was suspected to have been tortured for more than a week by his allegedly ‘drug addict’ parents. While the father of the boy was already in judicial custody in connection with another case, the mother would be arrested soon, police said.

The boy alleged that his father had hit him with an iron rod while his mother attacked him with a coconut and poured hot water on him.

5. Huge Haul of Explosives Including 30,000 Detonators Seized, Six Arrested

In a joint raid, the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and police seized a huge cache of explosives from the Ghatampur area on Thursday and arrested six persons.

30,000 detonators, 20,000 gelatin sticks and 600 kg of ammonium nitrate were seized and six persons, five from Bihar and one from Jhansi, were arrested earlier on Thursday, Inspector General of Police, Aseem Arun said.

6. Two Killed Over Dispute About Dead Cow in Gurdaspur

Two persons, Bikramjit Singh (23) and his uncle Satnam Singh (55) were killed by Bua Singh following a minor dispute over a dead cow in Simbli village in Gurdaspur, Punjab on Thursday. The incident occurred on Wednesday after Bikramjit’s cow died of insecticide poisoning after grazing fodder from Bua Singh’s fields, police said. The village panchayat asked Bua to pay a compensation of Rs 25,000 which he refused to. A heated argument ensued between the two parties which subsequently turned violent.

7. 22-Year-Old Girl Strangled to Death by Husband, Sister

Newly married, 22-year-old Pooja was allegedly strangled to death with a dupatta by her husband and sister in southwest Delhi. Married for just one-and-a-half months, Pooja had discovered that her husband was having an affair with her sister Rinky (20) and was unhappy. When Pooja objected the relationship, Rinky and Rahul allegedly hatched a plan to eliminate her so that they could get married, said the police. The accused were arrested by the police after investigation.

8. Jewellery Staff Robbed of Rs 3.9 Cr by Disguised Policemen

A five-member gang, disguised as policemen, on Thursday robbed four jewellery store employees of Rs 3.9 crore in Coimbatore. The ‘policemen’ intercepted the car which was returning from Chennai with the cash earned from the sale of gold ornaments under the pretext of checking it and then asked the occupants to accompany them in their jeep with the cash. They were forcibly dropped off at a road junction and the gang then fled with the cash and car, police said.

9. Contractor Killed By Worker Who Was ‘Eyeing His Job’

A 28-year-old contractor was allegedly shot dead by one of his workers who was eyeing his post in Khajuri Khas area of north east Delhi, police said on Friday. Alauddin, 26, was arrested immediately after he shot dead Feroze yesterday. While Feroze’s family has alleged that Alauddin planned the act, the accused claimed that he was teaching Feroze how to use a gun when he accidentally shot him, police said.
