1. Rajasthan Teacher Died Hungry in Prison

A Rajasthan college lecturer, who had died in police custody last week, was not only subjected to third degree torture but was also kept hungry. This came to light in the postmortem report submitted to the state human rights commission on Wednesday.

The report also mentions of injury marks on Vikesh Kumar Gaur’s body and private parts. Seven policemen have been booked for the custodial death. For more read here.

2. Hyderabad: Adulterated-Spices Racket Busted, Deadly Additives Found

The main operator of food adulteration racket in Hyderabad was arrested as also were some traders selling such spices and other items. Three of the arrested, including the kingpin, were from Uttar Pradesh and 11 were traders of Begum Bazar, the biggest commercial hub of the city.

More than 1,000 bags of chemicals, including iron oxide, synthetic gums and artificial colour, have been seized from the main gang. Read the full story here.

3. Kerala: ‘Kiss Protests’ Organiser, Wife Held for Prostitution

Rahul Pasupalan, the key organiser of the ‘Kiss Protests’ in Kerala last year, and his model wife were among six arrested in Kochi on Wednesday in connection with an online prostitution case.

The police have said both were directly involved in the case. They were arrested from a hotel near Nedumbassery airport in Kochi.

Two minor girls, who were with the accused at the time of the raid, are being questioned and efforts are on to track their parents. Two women, also involved in the racket managed to escape. For more read here.

4. Bihar: Communal Clashes Kill 2, Several Injured

A cop and a 17-year-old were killed and several others injured as a result of a communal clash that broke out in Bihar on Wednesday.

A car driven by a member from a minority community crashed into a house killing two on Tuesday. Violence started when word spread that a woman was also critically injured and a crowd started assaulting members of minority community.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar called an emergency meeting with top officials, including the chief secretary and the DGP, to review the situation and asked all to maintain peace. For more read here.

5. Agra: Girl Assaulted; BJP, VHP Men Seek Closure of Madrassa

A mahapanchayat held by senior BJP leaders and VHP members in a Agra village called for the closing down of a madrassa, students of which are accused of assaulting a 11-year-old girl behind a temple on Tuesday. The gathering was also joined by several senior Muslim leaders and BSP MLA Thakur Suraj Pal.

With hundreds of villagers, both Hindus and Muslims, shouting in support, police sought seven days to take action in the matter. Read the detailed report here.

6. Mumbai: Paedophile Dhobi Caught Red-Handed

A paedophile was caught red-handed on Wednesday afternoon while he was trying to lure a boy. He was later identified as Rajaram Yadav, an employee of a local laundry.

It is learnt that Yadav had been targeting boys playing at the playground near his shop for the past few weeks. After sodomising his victims, he would threaten them of dire consequences. Read the whole report here.

7. 18 Years On, Vehicles Continue to Flout SC Order

A Public Interest Litigation has been filed in the Supreme Court, seeking issuance of directions for implementation of Speed Governors for all transport vehicles.

The NGO that has filed the petition has also raised concerns that even after the notification from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highway, the 28 states and the seven Union Territories have failed to make the Speed Governors mandatory for vehicles. Read in detail here.

8. Kolkata Girl Gives it Back to Her Assaulter, Grabs Collar to Get Him Arrested

A young woman who was groped while returning home from work in Kolkata on Tuesday night grabbed her tormentor by the collar and held on to him until colleagues at a nearby dance institute arrived to help her get the man arrested.

The man groped the dance instructor from behind. She turned back and grabbed him by the collar and then called the helpline 100. For more read here.

9. Delhi: Cop Who Tried to Rob Trucker in ‘Debt’ Trap

The Delhi Police constable who was arrested on Tuesday while trying to rob a truck driver is under a debt burden running into lakhs of rupees and pressure from moneylenders.

Rajesh, currently with Delhi Police 3rd Battalion, was arrested Tuesday during the robbery bid in North Delhi’s Timarpur area. He is in police custody for three days. Full report here.
