1. High-Tech Scam in HP Police Recruitment Exam; 6 Arrested

The Himachal Pradesh police on Sunday claimed to have unearthed a high-tech scam in the recent recruitment of police constables after the arrest of six persons in Nahan, including a government official and the topper of the examination.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that two aspirants Gurdeep Singh and Sushil Sharma, allegedly paid Rs 25,000 and Rs 3 lakh respectively to Ramandeep Singh – believed to be the mastermind of the scam – to secure high marks in the examination which was held on 29 May, they said.

2. 6-Year-Old Raped and Killed in Salem District of Tamil Nadu

A six-year-old girl was raped and killed in Tamil Nadu’s Salem district on Sunday, a day after her father reported her missing, reported the Hindustan Times.

Darshini G, from Telenganur taluk, had disappeared on Saturday evening after her father had sent her out to buy groceries, according to a Kolathur police official.

Her father, Gurunathan, had sent her to a nearby shop which was hardly half a kilometre away from their house. When she didn’t return after half an hour, he went looking for her and started asking if anyone had seen her.

A 17-year-old has been arrested in connection with the crime.

3. Nine Militants Held With Arms in Bihar

Nine activists of the proscribed militant outfit Tritiya Prastuti Committee (TPC) were arrested along with arms and detonators from Panirghat in Bihar’s Rohtas district, police said on Sunday, reported the Indian Express.

Police recovered three rifles, two pistols, 43 cartridges and 40 detonators from their possession. The operation was led by Superintendent of Police MS Dhillon and Assistant Superintendent of Police (Operations) Mohammad Suhail.

4. Doctor Kills Himself Inside a Car in Noida Parking Lot

A 32-year-old doctor was found dead inside his car in the parking lot of a mall in Noida Sector 27 on Sunday evening. Police said it was a case of suicide after they found the body with gunshot wounds in the temple and recovered a suicide note, reported the Indian Express.

Police said Deepak Bhati, a resident of Sector 15 in Noida, had sent a text message from his phone to his brother, an MBBS student, around 3 pm. “In the message, Bhati asked his brother to come to Sab mall in Noida Sector 27 to recover his body,” said Amarnath Yadav, SO, Sector 20 police station, Noida.

5. Boy Found with Throat Slit, Uncle Held in Bengal

A boy who had lost his parents a few years ago and used to stay with his father’s brother was found murdered in a Harishchandrapur village on Sunday, according to The Telegraph.

Sahidul, a Class V student, was found dead in a paddy field, around 500 metres from his uncle’s house, at Alamganj on Sunday. He had his throat slit and was lying in a pool of blood.

The boy’s parents had died because of some diseases about three-four years back. Since then, he had been staying with his uncle Gafur.

6. Techie Swathi’s Murder Suspect Shifted to Chennai

Less than 48 hours after his detention, P Ramkumar, the suspected killer of Infosys software engineer S Swathi – who was admitted to the Tirunelveli Government Medical College Hospital in the wee hours of Saturday after he slit his throat in a bid to commit suicide – was on Sunday evening taken to Chennai amidst tight security, reported The Hindu.

Ramkumar was expected to arrive in Chennai by 2 or 3 am and would be produced before the 14 Metropolitan Magistrate in Egmore in connection with the murder.

He reportedly claimed to have murdered Swathi after being angered by her sarcastic remarks about his appearance when he proposed his love to her.

7. Yavatmal Molestation Case: 40 Injured as Parents Clash with Cops

At least 40 people, including policemen and media persons, were injured on Sunday when a protest by some parents against the alleged molestation of girl students at a school in Yavatmal turned violent, and police resorted to lathi-charge.

The protesting parents were demanding the arrest of Kishor Darda, Chairman of YPS School Committee, which runs Yavatmal Public School at the centre of the controversy.

To push their demand, the parents had assembled in front of Darda’s residence on Sunday morning. The protest turned violent when they resorted to stone-pelting, targeting the policemen. Police resorted to lathi-charge and lobbed teargas shells to disperse the angry parents.

8. Woman, Children Found Hanging in House, Suspect Foul Play by In-Laws

Four persons, including a woman and her two children, were on Sunday found hanging under mysterious circumstances at their house in Chaitain village of Tohana district, police said.

The deceased have been identified as Sonia (23), wife of Krishan Kumar, Kajal (5) and Raman (2) and a neighbour Kulbeer Singh.

The family members of the woman have alleged that her in-laws murdered her and hanged the bodies later. Police said possibility of an extra-marital affair having led to the incident cannot be ruled out.

9. After Twitter Spat, Journalist Files Complaint Against Singer Abhijeet

A woman journalist, Swati Chaturvedi, on Sunday filed a complaint against Bollywood singer Abhijeet for allegedly using ‘foul and offensive language against her’ on Twitter, according to the Hindustan Times.

She also accused him of instigating communal disharmony by spreading false information. Delhi Police have not filed an FIR and are likely to forward the complaint to the Mumbai Police.

The Delhi-based journalist got into a row with singer Abhijeet on Twitter when the latter called the murder of Infosys employee S Swathi, a ‘Love Jihad’ and made certain remarks about Pakistan.
