1. Death Toll in Mumbai Hooch Tragedy Nears 100
The toll due to consumption of spurious liquor in Malad area of Mumbai climbed to 97 today with the death of seven more persons in the last 24 hours even as police arrested two bootleggers in connection with the incident.
The death toll has risen to 97 while 46 persons are still undergoing treatment in various hospitals of the city.

2. Close Aide of Underworld don Ravi Pujari Arrested
A 27-year-old man, suspected to be a close aide of fugitive gangster Ravi Pujari, has been arrested, police said on Sunday.
Acting on a tip-off, sleuths of City Crime Bureau (CCB) on Saturday picked up Vishal C Uchil from his apartment at Pumpwell area in Ashok Nagar in Magaluru, police said.
Police said he was arrested with live ammunition. Four mobile phones and five bullets were also seized from him.

3. Madhya Pradesh Journalist Set on Fire, Buried in Maharashtra
In the wake of an Uttar Pradesh journalist being set afire for posting against a politician, another journalist was set ablaze in Madhya Pradesh.
The journalist, Sandeep Kothari (44), resident of Katangi area of Balaghat district in Madhya Pradesh, went missing on June 19.
We have arrested three suspects in the case. They are being interrogated. Initially it seems to a personal rivalry but our investigations are on.

Three neighbourhood boys were rounded-up by the police who later confessed to having killed him and buried him in Nagpur city of Maharashtra.

4. Congress Workers Detained Ahead of Yoga Day Celebrations
Three Congress workers were briefly detained by the city police for protesting outside the sports complex in Sama area of Vadodara, Gujarat, where International Yoga Day celebrations were held on Sunday, a police official said.
According to Sama police inspector RR Rathva, these Congress workers were released on bail after the celebrations ended.

5. Jaya Seeks PM’s Intervention for Release of Fishermen by Sri Lanka
Following the latest instance of arrest of Indian fishermen by Sri Lanka, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Sunday sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention for the release of 31 such persons along with their boats.
I urge your personal intervention... and request you to direct the Ministry of External Affairs to take up the matter with the Sri Lankan authorities at the highest level to secure the immediate release of 31 apprehended fishermen and their 23 fishing boats in Sri Lankan custody, including the 17 fishermen and 2 fishing boats apprehended on June 20.

6. Peepli Live Co-Director Arrested on Rape Charges
Popular writer and director Mahmood Farooqui, accused of raping a foreign national in March, has been arrested by Delhi Police on rape charges.
An FIR with regard to the alleged incident was lodged earlier this week. A case under IPC’s Section 376 has been registered against the writer-director and he was sent to a 6-day judicial custody.

7. Four Held With Bogus Visa
Four people were apprehended at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad city of Gujarat on Sunday in a fake visa case, police said.
The four persons were identified as Satish Baldevbhai (24), Jaykishan Chaudhari (23), Nilesh Chaudhari (25) and a travel agent Bharat Chaudhari, Inspector of Sardarnagar police station KK Patel said.
They were on their way to Canada, said Patel.

8. Maid Found Dead; Family Alleges Rape
Family of a 16-year-old domestic help, who was found dead under suspicious circumstances at a house where she worked in Sector-8 area of Faridabad, on Sunday alleged that she was raped and murdered by her employers.
According to a complaint filed by the victim’s father yesterday, the girl was allegedly raped by Sanjay Gupta, the owner of the house, who killed her with his wife Manju’s help.

9. Man Kills Daughter-in-law; Commits Suicide
A 27-year-old woman was shot dead at her Adrash colony residence in Punjab allegedly by her father-in-law who committed suicide by jumping into Bhakra Canal on Sunday.
Fatehgarh Sahib Senior Superintendent Police Gurmeet Singh Randhawa and other police officials immediately reached the spot.
In the ongoing investigation, the woman, identified as Munal, was allegedly killed by her father-in-law Deepak Sapra.

10. Woman Gangraped in WB
A tribal widow was gangraped allegedly by eight persons at Tatinapara village under Labhpur police station in Birbhum district of West Bengal, the police said on Sunday.
The 36-year-old woman was raped by eight men on Friday and lodged a complaint on Saturday.
The police arrested four of the accused.
