1. Shot by Brother, Locket Saves Woman’s Life

On Thursday, after offering Eid prayers, Mohammed Nadeem, a resident of Qureshiyan Colony in Muzaffarnagar district shot at his sister Shabnam for marrying a man he did not approve of, reported The Times of India.

Luckily, Shabnam happened to be wearing a locket which foiled her brother’s plan to gun her down. The locket fended off the bullet and Shabnam was unharmed. She later went to the police to tell them about the attack on her.

The woman had recently married a man named Anees against the wishes of her family. Her brother was enraged by the marriage and allegedly shot at her on the morning of Eid. He aimed at her chest.

2. Thieves Strike at MLA’s House, Steal Over Rs 50 Lakh

Burglars broke into the residence of BJP MLA Yashpal Singh Sisodia in Madhya Pradesh and stole Rs 20-25 lakh cash and 50 grams of gold, reported The Hindu.

Nobody was at the MLA’s residence when the incident took place. Superintendent of Police Mandsaur Manoj Sharma reached the spot to enquire about the incident.

Mr Sisodia suspects that the theft was carried out by someone who knew exactly where the cash and gold were kept as the other rooms remained untouched.

3. Police Arrest Nine for Selling Pirated Bollywood Movies

Delhi police arrested nine people and seized data storage devices, including computers, laptops and DVDs, in connection with the Great Grand Masti online leak on Wednesday, according to an Asian Age report.

Balalji Telefilms lodged a complaint with the police on Tuesday, who referred it to the crime branch. The crime branch sent decoy customers and later sent 20 teams to conduct raids on several video rental shops and internet cafes across the city on Wednesday and Thursday.

Nine persons were arrested during the raids on Lajpat Rai Market, Old Lajpat Nagar market, Kotla Mubarakpur, Tughlakabad Extn, Old Seempuri, Malviya Nagar and Chandni Chowk. The arrested persons were found to be selling unreleased or pirated films like Great Grand Masti, Sultan and Udta Punjab for 50 or less.

4. Man Jumps into Ganga for Video, Gets Swept Away

A 27-year-old ​man allegedly jumped into the raging waters of the Ganga near​ ​Haridwar at the behest of his friends who wanted to record the “dramatic ​act​”​ on their mobile phones, according to a Times of India report.

Ashish Chauhan, who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol, was hesitant but was convinced by his friends to do the stunt. His body disappeared without a trace, much to the shock of his friends and family, who claim he was a good swimmer.

The video of the jump has gone viral on social media, as his body is yet to be found.

5. Absconding Criminal who Escaped Police Custody Arrested in Delhi

A 36-year-old suspected criminal, who had escaped from police custody in April this year in outer Delhi’s Bawana while he was being escorted to a court in Sonepat, Haryana, has been arrested, according to the Hindustan Times.

Deepak Dabas, who was previously involved in 22 serious crimes, committed four more crimes after his escape, within a two-month span. A cash reward of Rs 1 lakh was announced on his arrest, police said. In all four cases, Dabas and his accomplices had opened fire at rivals to settle scores.

6. Elderly Woman Found Dead in West Delhi Residence

The body of a 68-year-old woman was found at her residence in Paschim Vihar in West Delhi on Thursday. Krishna Devi Arora was allegedly strangulated to death, police said.

Arora, who was childless, lived alone at the ground floor of her house following her husband’s death last year, while the first floor was rented out. She used to stay in touch with her nephew, a grocery shop owner, who would usually have lunch at her place.

He could not make it to meet her on Thursday so he sent one of his employees, who found the woman’s house door ajar. The messenger found Krishna Devi dead and there was evidence that the house had been ransacked.

7. Woman Immolates Self After Husband Abandons Pet Dog

On Thursday, a young woman set herself ablaze, upset that her husband abandoned their dog and its newborn puppy in a desolate area, according to an Indian Express report.

The incident from Tamil Nadu comes on the heels of the case registered against two MBBS students who threw a dog off a rooftop for a video.

The mother of two is a dog-lover who was deeply upset that her husband abandoned their dog, to whom she was deeply attached. She suffered 85 percent burns and is fighting for her life. No case has been registered so far.

8. Child Dies, Mother Injured as Roof of House Collapses

A 5-year-old child died and his mother were injured as the roof of their house collapsed, according to a report by the Millennium Post.

According to the police, the incident was reported to them at around 7.40 am on Thursday. Soon after the incident, both the victims were rushed to the nearby hospital by the locals.

The victims have been identified as Pradeep (5) and Sangeeta (40). The hospital authorities pronounced Pradeep dead on arrival whereas Sangeeta is being treated for injuries on her left hand.

The woman’s husband is a vegetable vendor who, along wither their elder son narrowly escaped the incident. It is assumed the mishap occurred due to rain, which loosened a portion of the roof.

9. Youth Killed, Another Hurt in Car-Truck Collision

A 23-year-old youth lost his life while his friend sustained serious injuries in an accident between a car and a truck in Mohali on Thursday, according to a report by The Tribune.

The incident occurred around 4.15 am where Harmanpreet Singh from Patiala died on the spot while his friend, Sidakpreet Singh sustained multiple injuries. He was taken to the Government Medical College and Hospital, where his condition is stated to be critical.

The airbags of the car inflated but burst shortly thereafter due to the huge impact. The front portion of the car was completely crushed, and it took an hour to pull out the victim from the debris.
