1. Kerala Actor Sreejith Ravi Allegedly Flashes Minor Girls, Arrested
Malayalam actor Sreejith Ravi was arrested on Thursday for allegedly misbehaving with school girls in Palakaad. The girls alleged that Ravi parked his car close to their school, indecently exposed himself to them and took their photo from his mobile. While the actor denied all allegations, the police arrested him under Section 509 of the IPC (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of women) from a film shooting location at Ottapalam on Thursday.

2. Former Scientist Arrested For Sexually Abusing ‘Adopted’ Girls
Maqsood Ansari, a former assistant scientist with National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) in Nagpur was arrested for allegedly sexually abusing three minor girls, whom he had reportedly adopted, over the years, police said on Thursday.
The 72-year-old was nabbed on Wednesday following a complaint by the eldest girl aged 16 who said she was “exploited” since she was in Class I. The accused had also offered to marry her.

3. In-Laws Attempt to Set Pregnant Woman Ablaze After Astrologer Predicted Girl Child
The in-laws of a pregnant lady in Mutukur in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh allegedly tried to set her ablaze after an astrologer predicted that she would give birth to a girl child.
Married to a tenant farmer, 28-year-old T Girija had been facing harassment since she gave birth to her daughter last year. When an astrologer predicted that the second baby she was expecting would also be a girl, the victim’s in-laws tried harassing her into aborting it, but she refused. Police said that Girija’s husband, mother-in-law and sister-in-law have locked their home and fled. They are, at present, absconding.

4. 25-Year-Old Recently Widowed Woman Raped in Tamil Nadu
A 25-year old woman, whose husband died last month, was allegedly raped by a man at her home in a village near Rameswaram on Thursday. Following a complaint by the woman, a case had been registered and search is on for the accused, police said. Around 150 residents of the village gathered in front of the DSP’s office and staged a protest seeking immediate arrest of the culprit and only left after being assured of action.

5. Smuggler Held With Heroin Worth Rs 40 Crore, Pistol on Punjab Border
BSF personnel apprehended one person on Thursday along the Indo-Pak border in Abohar sector of Punjab and recovered eight kgs of heroin worth Rs 40 crore and a pistol from his possession. The arrested has been identified as an Indian national named Jagtar Singh of Fazilka district. DIG BSF Abohar has instructed all the sectors and battalions under Punjab Frontier to remain extra alert so as to effectively check activities of smugglers and anti-national elements on Punjab border with Pakistan.

6. Cash, Jewellery Worth Rs 10 Lakh Looted, Police Suspect Foul Play
In a case of suspected house burglary, cash and jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh were looted, while a housewife was disrobed and her hair chopped off by three unidentified persons in Lahori Gate in north Delhi on Thursday. Only the woman and her family members knew where the money and jewelry were kept, the police reported. Hence police were suspicious of the claims of robbery made by the woman.
A case has been registered under appropriate sections of law and investigation is underway.

7. Minor Girl Raped-Murdered, Private Tutor Held
The body of a minor girl, allegedly raped by her private tutor, was found buried in a tea garden in Assam’s Cachar district, police said on Thursday. The girl had gone to her private tutor’s house near Haticherra tea garden in Borkhola area of the district on 28 July but was missing since then. The teacher, Ajay Bauri, surrendered at the Malugram police outpost on Wednesday but denied his involvement in the incident.

8. Labourer Strangles Son to Death Following Tiff With Ex-Wife
A labourer allegedly strangled his two-year-old son to death after an altercation with his ex-wife in the powerloom town of Bhiwandi, Thane on Thursday. The incident took place on Thursday night when Parvin who had divorced the accused, 28-year-old Hashim Shabbir Sindhu due to money matters, refused to come home when he urged her.
Then Hashim quarelled with her and throttled their son, Amin, to death, the police reported.

9. Girl Kidnapped Outside College in Uttar Pradesh
A class 12 girl was allegedly kidnapped by four unidentified men in a car from outside her college at Gill Colony in Saharanput on Thursday. Four men grabbed Manju from behind when she was deboarding an auto-rickshaw and forced her into their van. The three girls who were with her at the time told police that by the time they called for help, the van had disappeared. A few days ago Manju had allegedly opposed harassment by a boy who had threatened her with consequences.
