1. Two Nigerian Nationals Held With 4 kgs of Heroin in Punjab

Two Nigerian nationals were arrested in Jalandhar on 15 June. Four kgs of heroin – worth Rs 20 crore in the international market – were seized from them, reports PTI.

Acting on a tip-off, a raid was conducted last night at a house on Panchsheel Avenue in Jalandhar and the duo was arrested, Police Commissioner Arpit Shukla said.

The police said that the two used to live in Jalandhar pretending to be students and two days ago they had brought 2 kgs of heroin from Delhi.

2. Two Arrested for Conning Amazon by Returning Duplicate iPhones

Two persons were on Wednesday arrested in Hyderabad for allegedly cheating the e-commerce giant Amazon by buying iPhones from the online portal and then reclaiming the money by returning duplicate phones, reports PTI.

After delivery, they asked the company to take the phones back on different pretexts like tampered package, defects in the product or delayed delivery and the like and returned duplicate handsets. They sold off the original iPhones later.

One of the accused was a risk investigator at Amazon. Six iPhones were seized from the duo.

3. Local BJP Leader Hacked to Death in Karnataka

A BJP Zilla Panchayat member was hacked to death by a group of men at a gym in Dharwad, Karnataka on Wednesday, reported PTI.

The deceased has been identified as Yogeesh Goudar, a member of Hebballi constituency, police said. He sustained injuries on the head and neck after being attacked with lethal weapons.

A special team has been formed to probe the case.

Former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar demanded an “impartial” probe into the incident.

4. 50-Year-Old Sexually Assaults 5-Year Old in Delhi

A five-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a 50-year-old man, her family’s landlord, in south Delhi’s Sangam Vihar area on Wednesday, according to a PTI report.

The incident took place early morning when the minor was returning home after buying a packet of milk. The accused lured the girl to a secluded place where he allegedly forced himself upon her.

The man was arrested after a case was filed under relevant sections of the IPC and POCSO Act.

5. Congress Leader’s Nephew,10 others Accused of Thrashing Toll Staff in MP

Police have registered a case against KP Kansana, nephew of Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh Minister AS Kansana, and ten others for allegedly assaulting the employees of a toll bridge and fleeing with Rs 1.50 lakh in cash in Morena, Madhya Pradesh, reports PTI.

Police registered a case under IPC sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 395 (dacoity) among others, the SP said, adding that the accused fled from the spot and a manhunt was on.

As per the police complaint, when the toll bridge staff asked the driver of a sand-laden truck to pay the tax, he said the vehicle as well as three others trucks behind him belonged to the family of the former minister AS Kansana, and they would not pay toll.

6. Kolkata Salt Lake Gang Rape Case: Fourth Suspect Nabbed

Another suspect has been nabbed in the brutal gang rape case in Kolkata’s Salt Lake area.

The rape had occurred when the woman was waiting for transport on the road and men in a van forced her into a SUV.

Subrata Dutta, a driver, was arrested on Thursday at Kolkata Railway station after police received reports that the suspect was trying to flee.

7. Businessman Robbed of Rs 53 Lakh at Knife-Point in Ahmedabad

A businessman was on Wednesday allegedly abducted and robbed of Rs 53 lakh at knife-point by two unidentified persons in Sola area of Ahmedabad, according to a PTI report.

Jasmin Patel, who is in the construction business, told police that two men abducted him in his car at Sola Bridge and drove some way off, where they proceeded to rob him of Rs 53 Lakh.

Patel had withdrawn the money from an ATM a short while before the incident.

Investigations into the robbery were on, said the police.

8. Man Rapes Maid in Hyderabad, Arrested

Police have apprehended a 70-year-old retired CPDCL engineer for sexually assaulting his 27-year-old domestic help at his flat in Khanamet, according to a report in The Times of India.

The maid lodged a complaint against the accused Somi Reddy (70), alleging that he tried to rape her on Tuesday. The complainant said that the man had previously raped her a number of times when his wife was not at home.

The police registered a case against Reddy under the relevant sections of the SC & ST (Prevention) of Atrocities Act.

9. Delhi Airport’s Check-in Baggage Thief Arrested

According to a PTI report, an alleged bag lifter who stole check-in baggage at the IGI airport in New Delhi has been arrested by police from Punjab on Wednesday.

A complaint about the theft of check-in luggage from Lucknow-Delhi flight was reported by Air India security to the police on 7 June.

An analysis of CCTV footage revealed that Punjab resident Jasbir Singh, 34, picked up check-in baggage from the conveyor belt and changed into a handbag while heading for the Ahmedabad flight on May 11.

He returned from Ahmedabad on May 13 with the same stolen empty bag at IGI Airport. He went on to steal another check-in baggage of Paris-Delhi Air India flight and caught the Amritsar flight.
