1. Dalit Youth Murdered in Punjab, Leg Chopped Off; 3 Arrested


In a shocking incident, a 20-year-old Dalit youth, who was allegedly involved in illegal liquor trade, was brutally killed and his leg chopped off allegedly by a rival group of liquor smugglers in the Mansa district of Punjab, police said on Wednesday.

Mansa SSP Mukhwinder Singh said police have arrested three accused Balbir Singh, Hardeep Singh and Sadhu Singh from the district.

He said efforts are on to nab three other accused. A case of murder has been registered against the six persons and one of the accused is also a Dalit.

2. Held for WhatsApp Message on Beef, Jharkhand Youth Dies in Custody

Minhaj Ansari, a 22-year-old man from Jharkhand who was arrested last week for sharing an “objectionable” message about beef on WhatsApp, died at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) on Sunday.

Ansari’s family alleges that he was beaten up and tortured in police custody, resulting in his death. The police officers initially cited medical records that claim he had been suffering from encephalitis.

The officers, however, conceded later that there were lapses on the end of the officer-in-charge at the police station who has been suspended and an FIR of murder has been registered against him.

3. Minor Nurse Raped by Co-Worker in Hyderabad

A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her co-worker at the Ramakrishna old age home at LB Nagar in Hyderabad. Police arrested the rapist G Ganesh, 25, of Nandigama, and his two friends who helped him.

Police said the suspect forcibly took the girl to his vehicle near her cottage and raped her while his two friends kept watch on Tuesday midnight. The victim was a nurse, police said.

According to the rape survivor, Ganesh called her in the night and took her to a four-wheeler in the parking lot of the old age home and assaulted her.

4. Haryana: Newlywed Kills Mother-In-Law for Not Allowing Her to Use Mobile Phone

Police on Monday arrested a newlywed woman for allegedly murdering her mother-in-law over not letting her use her mobile phone, at Premnagar Colony of Harayana’s Bhiwani district.

The police said the accused, Surekha (20), had concocted a story about her mother-in-law Phoolwati’s murder, but confessed to the crime on Monday after she was interrogated.

Phoolwati’s husband had complained to the police that when he woke up on Saturday morning, he found his wife covered in blood and daughter-in-law lying unconscious at the main gate.

5. Man Shoots Co-Passenger to Death in Moving Tamil Nadu Bus


In a suspected case of a tit-for-tat murder, an unidentified man travelling on a bus took out a pistol, fired point blank at a person and escaped as the driver stopped the vehicle near Sattur in Tamil Nadu’s Virudhungar district on Wednesday.

The victim, identified as Karuppasamy, 25, son of Kanthari from Valluvar Street in Kovilpatti, was working in Coimbatore as an ambulance driver. Police suspect previous enmity connected with a murder that took place in Kovilpatti to be the reason behind the killing.

6. 7-Year-Old Murdered in Her House in Hyderabad


A seven-year-old girl was murdered in her house on Wednesday afternoon at Medchal in Hyderabad. G Sai Prasanna was found with grievous injuries to her neck and wrist in the washroom. Her parents were away at work, police said.

The victim’s elder sister, Kavya Sri, 10, was asleep. She told police that she was not aware of the incident.

Police checked if it was a robbery but found that nothing was stolen from the house. “It looks like a person known to the family committed the murder. We are still inquiring about the motive,” he said.

7. Cop Attempts to Rape Colleague; Seniors ‘Try to Hush It Up’


A police constable has been temporarily taken off the job after he allegedly tried to rape a female colleague during a patrol at Mumbai’s Sewri jetty.

When the woman narrated the incident to her superiors, they reportedly asked her not to press charges and instead accept an apology from the errant constable, Raju Bijore.

The incident took place earlier this year, but it came to light only recently when deputy police commissioner (port zone) Sunita Thackeray suspended Bijore.

8. Three Arrested for Killing 85-Year-Old in Navi Mumbai


The Vashi police on Wednesday arrested three people for the murder of an 85-year-old woman.

According to the police, the incident took place on Tuesday night when the main accused, Prashant Manore, 26, and his wife Dipika, residents of Vashi, had come to his relative Udit Saha’s home at Shivkrupa building.

After dinner, when the Manores were leaving Saha’s residence, the complainant, Lawrence Fernandez, 27, was feeding his pet on the ground floor. Fernandez allegedly started to stare at Dipika, which irked Prashant, said police. After a heated argument, the accused started beating Fernandez, his father and his grandmother, police said.

His grandmother succumbed to her injuries.

9. Congress OBC Gen Secy Shot at in UP’s Mainpuri


Congress state OBC general secretary Sishupal Yadav was alleged shot at and seriously injured by three men on Sirsaganj-Karhal Road, Mainpuri, on Wednesday night while he was going to his village Nagla Khushal.

According to police, Yadav sustained three bullet injuries and was admitted to Saifai Hospital in a serious condition. He was reportedly riding pillion on a motorcycle when the suspects, who were also on a motorcycle, shot at him.
