1. Youth Gets 10-yr Jail Term in Pocso Case
A special Pocso Act court on Thursday convicted and sentenced a 25-year-old man to 10 years’ imprisonment for sexually assaulting a four-and-half-year-old girl.
Special public prosecutor Geeta Sharma said the minor was among the witnesses who deposed in court. The minor’s mother had told police that the girl was undergoing treatment for anaemia at a city hospital. She said on December 2, 2016, around 4.30pm, the girl went to buy chocolates from a shop on the hospital premises. The mother said when the girl returned, she complained she was bleeding.
The mother said she took her child to the doctor, who found abrasions on her private parts. When asked, the girl revealed the accused, who was in the vicinity, had sexually assaulted her, and threatened her. An FIR was registered, and the accused was arrested.

2. 370 Capsules With 4 Kg Heroin Found in Stomachs of 5 Men
Delhi Police and customs officials, in a joint raid on Saturday, arrested five Afghani men from Delhi airport and claimed to have recovered at least 370 capsules containing heroin, from their stomach.
The customs later claimed this was the “biggest ever” seizure of ingested drugs from Delhi airport.
Officers said the men had come to Delhi from Kandahar last Saturday. They were admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital and the capsules were extracted from their body over a period five days.

3. Defence Trainer Gets 5 Yrs for Raping Minor
A special Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act court on Thursday convicted and sentenced a defence trainer to five years’ imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old student at his academy.
The accused, found guilty under section 10 (aggravated sexual assault) of POCSO Act and section 506 (criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal Code, was a trainer at the academy, where the child used to attend classes at a suburban branch. The classes were being run at a school.
The child’s father, who had complained to police on 12 July 2015, said that on that day he had dropped his child for classes in the morning. He said that after the child was brought home later in the afternoon, he noticed that she looked frightened. The father said that later the child told her mother that when she was sitting alone in a classroom on the second floor, the accused sexually assaulted her.

4. Man Gets Death for Rape, Murder of 6-Yr-Old in Odisha
A special court on Thursday sentenced a man to death for the rape and murder of a six-year-old girl last year. This is the fourth death penalty awarded by a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) court in Odisha in the last two months.
The accused, Mohd Mustaq, lured the victim to a school in a village 28 km from Cuttackand raped her on April 21, 2018. She had injuries on her head, face, chest and private parts and marks of strangulation on her neck. She died in a hospital of injuries eight days later.
Additional sessions judge, Cuttack, Bandana Kar, who presided over the Pocso court awarded the death sentence while calling the crime “rarest of rare”. Mustaq was found guilty under sections 376 a-b (rape on minor girl below 12 years of age), 302 (murder), 363 (abduction) of the IPC and the relevant sections of the Pocso Act.

5. Posing as Australian Tax Officials, 3 Dupe Actor Isha Sharvani; Arrested
The Delhi police’s cyber crime unit on Thursday said they have arrested three men for duping actor Isha Sharvani. The actress who currently lives in Perth, Australia was allegedly duped of nearly ₹3 lakh.
The police said the suspects, had called her and pretended to be from the Australian Tax Office. They had threatened to arrest the actress for evading tax and made her transfer around 5,700 Australian dollars (AUD) via online money transfer services, the police said.
The suspects were identified as Bhanuj Berry, 24, Punnet Chadha, 34, and Rishabh Khanna, 23. The police said the three ran a syndicate from a fake call centre being operated from west Delhi’s Vikasupuri and have duped over 100 persons in Australia.

6. Chandigarh: Cop Held for ‘Raping’ Minor, Remanded in Judicial Custody
The Chandigarh Police on Wednesday arrested a constable posted in its women’s cell for allegedly raping a minor girl at her residence in Gobindpura colony, Manimajra, on the night intervening September 29 and 30. The accused was produced in the court which remanded him in judicial custody.
According to information available, the accused was caught red-handed by the victim’s father, who raised the alarm, following which other residents gathered and called the PCR.
The accused has been identified as Ankit, 26. A native of Uttar Pradesh, he is posted in the women’s cell of the UT Police. He is a neighbour of the victim and allegedly raped her when she was alone at her home.

7. Man Beaten Up, Thrown on Pyre Over Sorcery Suspicion
An auto-rickshaw driver was allegedly beaten by a group of people with sticks, axe and stones, and thrown alive on the pyre of a woman, who they suspect died due to "black magic" by him, police said on Thursday.
The incident occurred at Adraspally village, around 40 km north of Hyderabad, on Wednesday.
A villager lodged a missing complaint about his brother following a rumour that the family members of the 45-year-old woman, whose cremation was going on, were also burning alive the 26-year-old on the same pyre, police said.

8. Gujarat: Man Held for Murdering Friend, Dumping Body in Vadodara
The Waghodia poilce on Thursday arrested a 23-year-old man for murdering his friend seven days ago over lending Rs 23,000.
Police said the deceased, Vijay Vankar (21) a resident of Madodhar village in Waghodia, left home on September 11 evening and was missing since then. When he did not return the next day and his phone was switched off, his parents started a frantic search. After a day-long search, they approached the police on September 13 and filed a missing person report.
Following the complaint, the police narrowed down on people Vijay met and spoke to last. “According to Vijay’s call records, the last call was made by Gaurang Talviya. When we rounded up Gaurang for interrogation, he misled us by narrating a different story,” said investigating officer, Bhagwatsinh Rathore. “We, however, continued to interrogate him and also tracked their cellphone locations. Gaurang finally confessed to have murdered his friend and dumped his body behind bushes close to a barren farm,” Rathore added.

9. 70-Yr-Old Lynched Over Rumours of Child-Lifting
A mob thrashed a man, in his 70s, to death after suspecting him of being a child lifter at Kuchi Pahari in Jharkhand’s Sahibganj district, the state police said on Thursday.
The Jharkhand police did not immediately identify the man and said his body has been sent for autopsy. “We have lodged a FIR against unknown persons today [Thursday] and started a probe,” said Sahibganj police superintendent Hrudeep P Janardhanan.
He said the man was collecting herbs in a hilly area when the mob attacked him. “I think the old man, who was looking very poor, died of panic on way to hospital after being beaten by villagers. The autopsy report will reveal the actual cause of the death,” he said.
