1. Godman Asaram Bapu’s Ashram Ransacked

The ashram of godman Asaram Bapu in Shahjahanpur district was found ransacked on Saturday night and several books were set on fire. The incident comes a day after Narayan Pandey, a follower of the godman, was arrested in connection with the murder of Kripal Singh, the main witness in the Asaram rape case in Shahjahanpur earlier this month.

Pandey also allegedly admitted to his role in the murder and was produced in court and sent to jail.

2. Lokayukta PRO Held For Graft

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing charges of corruption in the Lokayukta institution on Sunday arrested Lokayukta Joint Commissioner (PRO) Syed Riyaz.

The SIT arrested Riyaz in connection with threatening and attempting to extort money from PWD Executive Engineer M N Krishnamurthy. Though the SIT had already arrested three individuals, Riyaz is the first Lokayukta official to be arrested.

3. Mother Axes Daughters, Tries To Commit Suicide

A 35-year-old woman hacked her three daughters to death before attempting suicide in Manika area of Latehar district in the wee hours today, prompting police to suspect that her husband abetted the gory crime.

Asha Devi (35), who axed daughters Reena (14), Sita (12) and Manisha (8), consumed poison and jumped into a well at Bari village, 25km from Latehar district headquarters and 125km from the state capital. She survived, however, as her in-laws rescued her and rushed her to a local health centre in Manika.

4. 17-Year-Old Molestation Victim Sets Self On Fire

A 17-year-old girl in Biwar area of Hamirpur district set herself on fire on Saturday night after she failed to protect herself from her molesters. The latter allegedly subjected her to harassment every day on her way to coaching classes.

5. Thane Auto Driver Killed After Refusing To Ferry Passengers

An auto-rickshaw driver was killed allegedly by five youths after he refused to ferry them, following which all the accused were arrested, police said on Sunday.

The incident took place at Nandivali village in Dombivli of Thane district, on Saturday, police station in-charge SB Shirvarkar said.

6. Chennai Man Held For Sending Porn Clips To Ex-Girlfriend’s Husband

A 27-year-old management executive, who sent porn clips and pictures taken with his estranged girlfriend to her husband and relatives to seek vengeance, has been arrested. The accused, H. Vimalnath, a resident of Perambur, works as a management executive at a private firm in Hyderabad, police said.

Investigations revealed that the accused was in a relationship with the woman from Tirumullaivoyal until a year ago. The woman walked out of the relationship after his behaviour changed and also due to an unfavourable match of their horoscopes. Following this, she married a relative of her’s nine months ago. Her husband is now working abroad.

7. Three Youths Held For Killing Friends, Planting False Story

Three youths have been arrested for allegedly killing their two friends last month and then implanting a false story of their drowning in the Munak Canal in Samaipur Badli area, police said on Sunday.

Accused Sachin Dabas, 19, Shahrukh Ali, 20, and Deepak Sethi, 20, were arrested on Friday in connection with the double murder of their friends Yash Nandal, 20, and Prince Dixit, 21, over a financial dispute, said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav.

8. Financier Murdered For Gold, Two Youths Arrested

Krishna, a 50-year-old financier from Mathikere who was also known as Baddi Krishna, was allegedly abducted and murdered a month ago by three of his tenants, who wanted his gold valuables. Krishna was fond of wearing heavy gold jewellery and would always be seen wearing several chains, bracelets and rings.

The murder came to light when Krishna’s family filed a missing complaint with the Yeshwantpur police.

9. Life Term Awarded To 60-Yr-Old For Murder

A 60-year-old man was sentenced to undergo life imprisonment for murdering a woman in Attur here in 2014.

R. Antonysamy (80) of Pungavadi in Attur, and Therasammal (70) had a son Chinnapaiyan who was married to Lurdumary. Antonysamy gave away 3.5 acres to Chinnapaiyan. After Chinnapaiyan’s death, Lurdumary wanted to sell the land –but the couple objected to it. She then subsequently asked a fellow villager to murder the duo.
