1. Thousands Rally for Gauri on Bengaluru Streets

Thousands flocked the roads of Bengaluru, pledging to take Gauri Lankesh’s fight forward. Police estimated that about 4,000 to 5,000 people participated in the ‘I Am Gauri’ rally.

Echoes of voices chanting “I am Gauri, we are Gauri”, could be heard as citizens marched from Bengaluru city railway station to Central College ground, where a convention was conducted.

At the Central College, the organisers made it clear that the rally was not a condolence meeting, but a show of strength and unity.

2. I Won't Quit Now, Let CBI Probe Ganapathy Case: Minister George

Bengaluru in-charge Minister KJ George on 12 September slammed the Opposition BJP's demand that he resign from his ministerial post after the Supreme Court handed over the DSP MK Ganapathi case to the CBI for either a “fresh probe or continue with the CID investigation”.

“Why should I resign? First, let the CBI investigate the matter and file a chargesheet against me. There is no question of my resignation,“ George said.

He said in 2016, he had voluntarily decided to step down after the Ganapathi suicide became public.

3. Man Held for Making Hoax Bomb Call to Vidhan Soudha

The Central division police, on 12 September, arrested a 22-year-old unemployed youth from Maddur, who had called the city police control room on 11 September and claimed that a bomb was planted in Vidhana Soudha and the planetarium.

The accused had made the call from a mobile phone and had introduced himself as Nagaraj.

Based on a complaint, the Vidhana Soudha police tracked down the mobile number and picked up Sridhar, who confessed that he made the call using his friend Nagaraj’s name, to get him into trouble

4. Bescom Website Hacked, Restored

The website of the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) was hacked on 11 September evening. As a result, customers were unable to pay their bills or browse through the website as they were redirected initially to a webpage advertising a lottery and then to a YouTube video discussing bitcoins.

According to the website users, the website www.bescom.org became inaccessible sometime around 8.30 p.m. on 11 September. Users were met with the defaced homepage.

5. Transgenders To Help Draft Guidelines For Sex Change

Now, the transgender community in Bengaluru has come together to frame new guidelines that will address all the medico-legal challenges associated with SRS at the national level.

6. Bengaluru Central Prison to Get 4G Jammers

The Parappana Agrahara Central prison will soon get 4G mobile jammers, in place of the existing 2G jammers, to prevent illegal activities, Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy said here on 12 September.

During a visit to the central prison, Reddy inspected the premises and held interactions with the inmates. He also held discussions with the senior prison officials and suggested measures to improve the condition in the prison.

“I personally inspected each and every barracks and interacted with the inmates. No special treatment is being given to any inmate,” he said.

7. Veerashaiva, Lingayat One and the Same: Siddaganga Seer

In an embarrassment to Water Resources Minister MB Patil, Shivakumara Swamiji of Siddaganga Mutt on 12 September said Lingayats and Veerashaivas are one and the same and opposed any effort to divide the community.

The centenarian seer also rebuked Patil for claiming that the Mutt was in favour of a separate religion status for Lingayats.

“We have learnt that Patil had stated in the media that the Mutt is favour of Lingayat faith. Any effort of this kind to divide the community is not in its interest,” the seer said in a statement issued to the media.
