1. Bengaluru Techie Was Victim of Road Rage

The Accenture software engineer who was stabbed to death allegedly by two bike-borne men in south Bengaluru on Monday was a victim of road rage. Police shot at and injured one of the two suspects after he attacked two police officers pursuing him on Tuesday evening.

The engineer, Pranay Mishra, from Bhubaneswar, was on his way to meet his girlfriend when he was murdered. Police said CCTV footage from near the Chocolate Factory junction, Tavarekere Main Road, Madiwala, where Pranay was stabbed to death provided them vital leads on the identity of the killers. "Both suspects are listed as rowdy-sheeters in Madiwala police station," a police source said.

2. Son Denied Mining Lease, MLA Abuses IAS Officer

A senior IAS officer has complained of abuse and intimidation by an MLA and sought protection. Rajendra Kumar Kataraia, commerce and industries secretary, has told the government K Shivamurthy Naik, MLA from Mayakonda, abused him at least three times.

Naik’s grouse is that Kataria has not granted a granite mining licence to his son Suraj S Nayak. Suraj had sought a lease in Siddeshwaranadurga village, Challakere, Chitradurga district.

Kataria has written to chief secretary Subash Khuntia, IAS Officers Association president P Ravikumar, and chief minister Siddaramaiah’s principal secretary LK Ateeq in this regard.

3. Debit Cards Stolen, Two Software Engineers Lose Rs 50,000 Each

Two software engineers lost Rs 50,000 each after a man stole their debit cards. The incident occurred on 1 October at the Gopalan Sports Centre at Mahadevapura where the victims were part of a corporate badminton tournament.

According to the CCTV footage, the accused, posing as an audience member, sat near the spot where Rajeshwar Rao had kept his bag. He took the card and walked out of the sports centre. The incident came to light when Rao got a message that Rs 50,009 had been withdrawn from his account. When he checked, he found that his card was missing. He reportedly called up his bank and blocked the card, before rushing to the police station.

4. Potholes: BBMP Will Name, Blacklist Road Contractors

A day after CM Siddaramaiah directed the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike to hold contractors accountable for maintenance of roads, commissioner N Manjunath Prasad said names of the roads under the defect liability period as well as details of the contractor will be made public by weekend.

He said ‘blacklisted’ contractors won't be allowed to bid for tenders floated by the BBMP in future. The CM's visit sent officials of East and West zones, along with corporators, into a huddle on Tuesday following which they reviewed and discussed potholes, solid waste management and other works, said mayor Sampath Raj.

5. BJP Yuva Morcha Files Case Against Ram Guha

BJP Yuva Morcha on Tuesday filed a complaint with the Malleswaram police seeking criminal action against historian and writer Dr Ramachandra Guha for making ‘baseless allegations against the RSS’ in connection with the murders of journalist and activist Gauri Lankesh and other rationalists.

Sankeeth Thady, secretary, BJP Yuva Morcha, said that though the investigations into these cases are yet to be completed, Guha accused the RSS without any proof in an interview.

“This accusation not only amounts to illegal interference in the course of justice but is also highly defamatory with ulterior motive,” Thady said in his statement.

6. President Ramnath Kovind to Address Special Joint Session of Karnataka Assembly

President Ramnath Kovind will address a special joint session of the Karnataka Assembly in Bengaluru to mark the 60-year anniversary of the Vidhana Soudha.

Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker KB Koliwad and Legislative Council Chairman DH Shankaramurthy met President Kovind on Monday to fix a date for the special session.

On Tuesday, Koliwad announced that the session will be held on October 25. “We met the President of India and requested him to grace the diamond jubilee celebration and address a special joint session of the state legislature. He has consented for the session to take place on 25 October at 11am,” Koliwad told the media.
