1. CBI Names K’taka Min KJ George in DySP Ganapathy Suicide Case FIR
In a major blow to Karnataka Congress, the state minister for Urban Planning and Development KJ George has been named the first accused in an FIR in the death of Mangaluru DySP K Ganapathy, news agency ANI reported.
Mangaluru DySP K Ganapathy committed suicide in a Madikeri lodge on 7 July last year. He had spoken to a local Kannada channel in which he accused the senior officials and the minister of harassment.
The Supreme Court had handed over the probe to the CBI in September. Along with George, IGP Lokayukta Bengaluru Pranov Mohanty and ADGP State Intelligence AM Prasad are also named as accused in the CBI FIR.

2. Abdul Karim Telgi, Man Behind Fake Stamp Racket, Dies
Abdul Karim Telgi, who was convicted in a multi-crore fake stamp paper scam, has died, authorities at Bengaluru's Victoria Hospital said. Telgi had been on ventilator support for the past six days. He was declared dead by the doctors at 3:55 pm on Thursday, 26 October.
SD Sharanappa, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru south, said Telgi’s death was communicated to the police on Thursday afternoon, and the body would be handed over to the family after official procedures are completed.
Telgi’s lawyer, MT Nanaiah, said he was being treated for meningitis over the last six days at Victoria Hospital, but the treatment was not successful. “He should’ve been admitted earlier,” Nanaiah added.

3. BBMP Seeks More Time to Fill Potholes
The civic body, which has missed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s deadline to fix the city’s cratered roads, has sought from the Lokayukta an extension of the deadline till 31 October to fill the remaining 12% of potholes.
Taking suo motu cognisance of the issue, Lokayukta P Vishwanatha Shetty had summoned BBMP officials for an inquiry into the matter on 23 October.
Refuting claims of dereliction of duty, civic officials cited heavy rainfall and subsequent deterioration of roads as the reason for the delay. Apart from potholes — 88% of which have been filled — the civic body’s report submitted to the Lokayukta noted that of the 4,96,000 sq m of bad reaches, 81% had been attended to.

4. Karnataka Cabinet Clears Policy to Safeguard Transgender Rights
The Karnataka cabinet on Thursday, 26 October, cleared the State Policy for Transgenders, 2017, aimed at bringing the community into the mainstream of the society and providing its members with a secured life.
The policy had been drafted in compliance with a Supreme Court order, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister TB Jayachandra told reporters after a cabinet meeting.
“They face insecurity, discrimination, insults, anxiety, suicidal tendencies. Therefore, this policy aims at bringing them into the mainstream of the society and provide them with a secured life,” said TB Jayachandra, minister for law.

4. KDA Directs KIA to Use Kannada
The Kannada Development Authority (KDA) has asked the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) authorities to make announcements in Kannada.
Though Kannada display boards have been installed at the KIA, announcements are still being made just in English and Hindi. KDA president SG Siddaramaiah reviewed the use of Kannada at KIA on Thursday. He said the KIA website should also be in Kannada, besides English.
Commenting on this, Hari Marar, president and executive director of Bangalore International Airport (BIAL), promised to take immediate steps to give information in Kannada.

6. Sex Video Featuring Pontiff Aired on TV, Sparks Tension
Outrage broke out on Thursday after footage emerged of a junior pontiff being intimate with a woman.
Dayananda S, junior pontiff of the Hunasamaranahalli Samsthana, was caught on camera in a compromising position. The video was aired through the day on Kannada news channels.
The mutt, in Hunasamaranahalli near the Kempegowda International Airport, has a 500-year history. Dayananda is the son of Pattada Sri Parvatharaja Shivacharya Swami, who heads the mutt.
Protesters shouted slogans, and said Dayananda and his father had brought disrepute to the mutt. Tension prevailed at the mutt soon after the video was aired on television.
