1. Joint Action Committee in Jammu Calls for 72hr Bandh

Reiterating its commitment towards the establishment of AIIMS in Jammu, BJP on Tuesday termed a three-day bandh call starting June 19.

The bandh is in an attempt by some “vested elements” to mislead the public and disturb the situation ahead of the upcoming Amarnath yatra in the state.

2. Snowden Documentary Premier Moscow Film Festival

The Oscar-winning Edward Snowden documentary Citizen-four will premiere at the 37th Moscow International Film Festival, set to run June 19-26, according to the forum’s press.

Directed by Laura Poitras, the documentary is about Snowden and the National Security Agency (NSA) spying scandal, will be shown in the non-competition section Svobodnaya Mysl (Free Thought).

3. Golden Jubilee Year of Shiv Sena

Political party Shiv Sena will turn 50 today.

The party was founded on this day in 1966 in Mumbai.

To mark the occasion, the party started a programme called the Shiv Prakash Yojna wherein hamlets in the state of Maharashtra will be provided free solar electricity.

4. Cisco CEO to Visit India

Chuck Robbins, incumbent CEO of global IT giant Cisco, and the outgoing CEO John Chambers are expected to be in India on June 18 and 19.

They hope to meet PM Modi and senior government official.

5. Rahul Gandhi’s Birthday

Rahul Gandhi, Vice President of the Congress party, turns 45 years old today.

On the occasion, the party members will reportedly cut a 45 Kg cake.

The leader of opposition will be spending his birthday in the country for the first time in more than a decade.

6. Rajnath Singh and Amit Shah to Visit Anandpur Sahib on its 350th Anniversary

Rajnath Singh, Union Home Minister, along with Amit Shah, BJP President will visit Anandpur Sahib on the occasion of the 350th anniversary celebrations of the holy town today.

Kamal Sharma, BJP President, Punjab said that Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar will also be attending the function.

The holy month of Ramzan will begin today.

The muslim community observe a month long fast by not eating or drinking after the sunrise and before the sunset.

The 30 day long fast is to mark the ninth month of the muslim lunar calendar.

8. Ducati India Official Launch Today

Ducati will hold an official launch event of Ducati India in Gurgaon on June 19 even though the operations of the Italian two-wheeler have already begun.

Ducati plans to bring almost all the models from its product portfolio to India including its premium offering, the 1299 Panigale.

9. Salman Rushdie Turns 68

Salman Rushdie, the controversial writter, turns 58 today.

Born in the year when India won freedom from the British Raj, Rushdie has a fatwa declared against him by Ayatollah Khomeini, a political and religious leader of Iran.

Rushdie is the recipient of Man Booker Prize, 1981, among many other awards.
