2. Narendra Modi to Inaugurate IIT-Patna Campus Today

With Bihar assembly elections around the corner, the BJP is leaving no stone unturned to make a mark in the state. In tune with this strategy, PM Narendra Modi is likely to inaugurate the permanent campus of the Indian Institute of Technology-Patna.

According to sources in the Human Resource Development Ministry, IIT-Patna has been informed that Modi is expected to inaugurate its permanent campus today.

CPI top brass would hold parleys on its role in the upcoming Bihar elections and are likely to adopt an agitational programme with other Left parties and mass organisations in the coming days to protest the government’s economic and other policies.

The party’s three-day National Council meeting, beginning today, would also discuss the recent national and international developments including BJP’s one-year rule at the Centre, land acquisition ordinance, labour reforms and the on-going Lalit Modi controversy, among other matters.

4. Bombay HC Refuses to Stay Maggi ban, Hearing to be Held Today

The Bombay High Court on Friday provided no relief to Nestle India and said that its two-minute noodle brand, Maggi, should be off the shelves till the next hearing in the case.

The court was hearing a plea by the Indian arm of the Swiss multinational seeking a judicial review of the order by the food safety regulator, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), calling for the withdrawal of its top-selling nine variants of Maggi instant noodles on health issues. A division bench of justice VM Kanade and justice BP Colabawala said the next hearing will be held today.

5. HC Reserves Order on Revanth Bail Plea till Today

The Hyderabad High Court on Friday reserved its order till today on the bail petitions of Telangana TDP MLA Revanth Reddy and two other accused in the cash-for-vote scam.

Justice Raja Elango heard the arguments of the defence and prosecution on bail petitions moved by Revanth Reddy, Bishop Harry Sebastian and R Uday Simha, who are presently lodged in Cherlapally central jail.

6. BJP MPs to Protest Against UP Govt’s Policies, Law & Order Today

BJP MPs from Uttar Pradesh would stage a dharna here on June 30 to protest against law and order situation in the state, policies of Akhilesh Yadav government and other issues. “Party MPs from UP will stage a dharn in Lucknow on June 30 to protest against poor law and order situation, policies of Akhilesh government and other issues,” BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said.

7. Complaint Case Filed Against BJP MP who Called Sonia Gandhi a ‘Demoness’, Hearing Today

A complaint was on Saturday filed against BJP’s Buxar MP Ashwini Kumar Choubey in a sub-divisional court at Darbhanga, about 145 km from here, for his alleged controversial remarks against Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi. Darbhanga district Congress leader Ramnarain Jha filed the complaint against Choubey in the court of chief judicial magistrate (CJM) G K Shrivastava for “filthy and derogatory” comments against the two senior most functionaries of the Congress. The CJM has admitted the complaint and transferred the matter to the court of a first class judicial magistrate which will hear it on June 30.

8. June 30 will be one Second Longer This Year

London, If your birthday falls on June 30, you can celebrate for a wee bit longer this year! The last day of June this year will get an extra second after the Paris Observatory announced it was adding a leap second to clocks. Dials will read 11:59:60 on June 30 as clocks hold their breath for a second to allow the Earth’s rotation to catch up with atomic time, experts said. Atomic time is constant, but the Earth’s rotation is gradually slowing down by around two thousandths of a second per day.

9. Apple Music Service to Be Launched Today for $9.99/month

“Apple Music,” the much-anticipated music streaming service from Apple will be available for iPhone and Mac users on June 30 and will cost USD 9.99 per month. Apple also said it users will be able to pay USD 14.99 per month if they want to share the service with up to six family members, Eddy Cue, senior vice president of Internet software at Apple.
