The nation on Sunday remembered Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversaries, with President Pranab Mukherjee, PM Narendra Modi and others paying floral tributes to the leaders.
Vice-President Hamid Ansari, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and senior BJP leader LK Advani also paid tributes to the Father of the Nation.
The Prime Minister remembered the two leaders for the values they championed.
Clad in a white kurta and pyjama, Modi, who arrived at 7.40am, paid homage to the Mahatma by offering rose petals at his memorial at Rajghat and performing a parikrama (circumambulation) around it.
Union Ministers M Venkaiah Naidu and Rao Inderjit Singh as well as Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad too joined in honouring Mahatama Gandhi.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal arrived along with his deputy Manish Sisodia at Rajghat to pay his respects to the the icon.
Ambassadors of several countries and other dignitaries attended the function. A large number of schoolchildren had also gathered at the venue.
