Delhiites will not be able to enjoy the cheap power rates that were implemented by the AAP government, with the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) approving a power purchase adjustment cost of 4-6% on Friday.
Power tariff in the national capital is hiked as it restored a surcharge to compensate the private electricity distribution companies for rise in power purchase cost, said P D Sudhakar DERC chairman.
Aam Aadmi Party said it will ask the regulator to review the hike as it will put additional burden on the consumers.
The hike will be effective from Monday.
The power bills of those living in south, west, central and east Delhi will go up by 6% from Monday, while those living in north Delhi will have to pay 4% more. The residents of New Delhi will have to shell out 5% on their power bills, reported Hindustan Times.
Delhi’s Power Minister Satyendar Jain said the government will ask DERC to review the order.
The hike will be on energy charges as well as fixed charges but will not be applicable on the additional eight per cent surcharge which was levied to help discoms clear the past dues.
